Okay, Tull in Stockholm!
I didn’t manage to take a single photo, sorry. Had to be in the moment. But it was a fine show! Here’s some unorganised notes, piping fresh.
Ian was on form, the voice sounded all right. Seemed to be in a good mood with good banter and plenty of dancing.
Setlist was okay, I found the lack of 70s a bit odd. Nothing from Warchild, Minstrel or SFTW! Favorite songs: Dark Ages, Heavy Horses, Navigators, Wolf Unchained, Mrs Tibbets. Least fave: Holly Herald (what an odd choice among all possible songs), Aqualung (new arrangement just doesn’t work for me).
The lack of acoustic guitar is a shame. I still hope the lessening of focus on acoustic music on RF and this tour means the next album will move in that direction. There was a prerecorded acoustic guitar on Weathercock that stuck out to me, not really a good compromise to be honest.
Jack Clark is really good! Quite an aggressive guitarist; when he goes, he really goes.
The big screen is fun as always. I love the diy approach where some footage genuinely seems to be shot on someone’s phone. The intermission features a weird still of Ian’s face staring into the audience, and after a while you realise it isn’t a still, you can see him breathing. Obviously just a short loop, but quite a strange thing to do, just stare the audience down!
I was surprised, nay, shocked when the pause ran over 15 minutes. Until the most quintessential Ianism of the night where he apologised for the delay of a couple of minutes! Apparently a concert-goer was injured and had to be taken to hospital, so it was respectful to hold up for a minute… but it’s just so Ian to actually apologise for such a small delay.
All in all, it was a very nice time!

I saw them in Aberdeen a while ago and it was great

I agree with you on all of that......especially the lack of acoustic guitar from Ian... no one from the band has ever explained why that is happening? ?? I saw them in Aberdeen a while ago and it was great Most musicians reach a point where they prefer instruments that they feel are essential. Ian has decided he wants to focus on the flute which most people enjoy the most. I would expect other instruments are more physical to play, so let Jack Clark ROCK !!!!

Oh, I forgot about Roots to Branches when I wrote my review - that was also one of the best songs! It’s not necessarily close to the top for me when it comes to favorites, but it was very powerful live, well performed by the band and Ian nailed the singing.
Mr 007, can I ask if your comment on the flute is based on your personal assessment, or something you’ve heard from official sources? Because I have to say, what you describe is a mistake. There’s tons of us who love the acoustic side of Tull... When I noticed the "fake" acoustic playing on Weathercock, it had really made me think of the myriad songs choices that would have been possible (without weird re-arrangements and backing tracks) if he had kept lugging his dainty little guitar around.... I strongly hope he reconsiders.

Ah, good point. That’s possible of course. If that is the case, I will not complain any more, but I think it might be time to add another musician to the live band then. You could have a multi-instrumentalist on acoustic guitar, who could also cover various other parts on other songs. There are so many parts in Tull songs, there would be lots for a fifth bandmember to do!

Images and Review by Fernando Conesa Ramallo October 3, 2024 Where it was, it always remains.. and in this case more. The great IAN ANDERSON, composer, frontman and flautist of the legendary band "Jethro Tull", at 77 years old, took another tour of the turk at the Victor Villegas Auditorium in Murcia. Introducing the band's new disco, Anderson is accompanied by a mixture of veteran and youth with its members, and they left an impeccable show in terms of professionalism, esthetics and musical execution. With their genuine style and voice, (and also cascade, all has to be said) and marking the times at all times, they flew us to a time where artists were truly it. With an unbelievable version of his famous "Aqualung", which he didn't even know his father but sounded fabulous, the concert ended, then came the encore. Ave, Caesar Anderson, the ones that freak out with the good.. they salute you..
