There are rumours that Steven Wilson has indeed remixed or will be in charge of A.

From JT's Rhino distributor
'A was recorded in Fulham, London during the Summer of 1980 and was intended to become an Ian Anderson solo album. The tapes were therefore marked ‘A’ for Anderson, which is how the album got its name, but the label asked the band to release it as Jethro Tull. It first hit the street on 29th August 1980 in the UK and on 1st September the same year in the US.
The album featured guest star, Eddie Jobson, on keyboards and electric violin. Jobson was renowned for his use of synthesizers and his work with the likes of Roxy Music, Frank Zappa and Yes. In 2017 he won the ‘Lifetime Achievement’ award at the Progressive Music Awards and in 2019 he was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a member of Roxy Music. Not surprisingly, ‘A’ was noted for its more synthesizer-based sound, something that divided fan’s opinions at the time!
Stay tuned for more news on this album in future…

At first I thought it was bad news that Tull's acknowledgement of A at 40 amounted to an email suggesting we give it a listen...but maybe the last line gives hope ?

Latest news from AND:
Benefit is being put together as we speak, with goodies not on the 2013 digipack edition, and the word is that A is fairly advanced, with the promise of a few unreleased associated tracks, some fantastic live recordings, the obligatory Slipstream video and other surprises and of course the SW remixes, all spread across a mamoth 3CD and 3DVD package. And hooray, work has even begun on BATB, although that's a long way down the track yet. As to when any of them will be released, that's all very dependent on when pressing and printing plants are available again. And furtehr on, it is my belief that Ian's often reported dissatisfaction with teh Drum Machine on UW will result in a rerecording of that album with real drums, as part of another book-set, despite Ian's finantial reservations expressed in the last issue of AND. This is ONLY my belief.....

Latest news from AND: Benefit .............. And further on, it is my belief that Ian's often reported dissatisfaction with the Drum Machine on UW will result in a rerecording of that album with real drums, as part of another book-set, despite Ian's financial reservations expressed in the last issue of AND. This is ONLY my belief..... I hope so. Under Wraps is actually one of Tull's better efforts in some ways, and yet it feels like it was rushed through the studio by external conditions they couldn't control. The electric drums are like a sketch of what should be there, they serve THAT purpose just fine, but don't sound like a finished product. There's now a chance to remedy that. Personally, I'd give that album, all over, a chance to be upgraded and NOT consider it just a "remix" or remaster or polishing off on the surface. It's a great opportunity to give it a project completion for the first time, an entire extra run through the creative process, and give those songs the atmosphere and delivery they deserve. Like I said, I think it's one of Tull's better creative possibilities.

Good news that Steve Wilson is going to continue the remixes. I'll especially look forward to Broadsword because I really liked the album AND the associated recordings. "A" has a few gems, but I've always considered it one of their weaker albums. My least favorite JT album(By far!) is "Under Wraps", I was not a fan of the drum machine and the excessive use of keyboards. I agree that album is begging for a complete do over which would mean recording live drums and either burying the keyboards deeper into the mix or eliminate them altogether. Don't think that will happen since many are still happy with the 1984 mix and the dramatically different musical style they attempted.

From the A New Day site on Facebook earlier today: "A New Day #137, out next week, featuring an interview with Dee Palmer, FULL details of the soon-come A 3CD+2DVD bookset "A LA MODE", and much more." So we have a name for the A book set, and confirmation of the number of discs, there. Happy days. I assume this will also mean we'll get an official announcement from Tull's various social media incarnations online sometime before we read it in print in A New Day.

"A La Mode" - "Up To Date" good title and with a nod to 'A' song in another album? Nah, just a coincidence. I think we've got a Thread for that! jethrotull.proboards.com/thread/323/most-repeated-word-tull-songs

Keep your hand off that red telephone.
My copy of AND arrived this morning, so I shan't spoil the announcement for you all — suffice to say there's full details of the contents of the 'A' box set. And a release date in late April.
*patiently waits for online pre-order option to become available*

Word from elsewhere online is:
Disc 1 extras: Crossfire (Extended Version), Working John, Working Joe ( Take 4), Cheerio (Early Version), Coruisk ( unreleased instrumental), Slipstream introduction.
Discs 2 & 3 are Live at L.A.
Disc 4 is DVD audio of the Wilson mixes including 5.1 and the original mix
Disc 5 is Slipstream DVD with audio remixed by Wilson
Not sure what the benefit is of waiting for the official reveal ... can't verify the above either, mind you, since I don't subscribe to AND.

Not a heap extra but I wasn’t expecting a lot. I’m happy that we have 2 new instrumentals and an extension to crossfire. That’s 10 minutes of new Tull music added to a pretty good album. I’ll probably replace batteries not included on my A track list on my iPod lol

I love the way they've consistently managed to source the correct fonts for all the 5.1 releases so far, keeping the new typography in line with the original album artwork. Loving attention to detail — this stuff matters! It's a research job all of its own.
