Jethro Tull rock! I've loved them since I was about 20 years old. My favourite album has to be Thick As A Brick, but I more or less like everything that has been recorded by the group in one form or another.
I am trying to find out more about some of the less well known music recorded by Tull and also solo albums from members of the group either before, during or after they left the band. I have had a look around this Board and read a lot of excellent threads and learnt a great deal.
Thank you

Damm they still rule
Just watched them live at the Isle of Wight Festival in 1970 and its got the blood pumping again - first heard them in 1982 at the age of 10 and still my bestest fave band ever at the age of 37.
Seen live 7 times and still go over the top when I hear them
Just recently connected Jehtro with the internet so slow to join the universal love for JT
Aqualung for national anthem I say !!

Greetings to the choir! Great to see a friendly collection of Tull fans, completely the opposite of that troll den that was the official board. There might even be a few here that remember me from there or have hung out at some east coast shows. Can't wait to get in on the talk and thanks for keeping the elusive Tull news coming! See you around.

We've managed to weed out most of the trolls who made their way here after the official board closed its "troll den" and I expect you may recognise a few of the good folks who were there. As you rightly say, apart from the US & European solo tour this autumn, Tull news is a bit thin on the ground at the moment but we've managed to secure a Q & A with Mick Abrahams so there's an opportunity to question the great man himself, one of the legends of all things Jethro Tull. It's good to have you here. Cheers Maddog

Thanks for the welcome guys.
I'm wondering if I can put a few names to faces here. Was anyone here at the XM Aqualung sessions? There were several posters from the official board that were there as well, but it's been so long I can't recall those user names. I thought I recognized a guy from the session at the Wolftrap show last month but he kindly corrected me and we had a nice conversation nonetheless.
Ok, this is totally random but just crossed my mind, thinking of the XM sessions. When my wife and I walked in to the studio, James Duncan was holding the door for everyone and was wearing the coolest shirt ever. It was a Strathaird Salmon Farm shirt, and it had 1979 era Ian in the logo! I wonder if it was a custom shirt someone made as a gag or something. Ian would never have stooped to using his image for "Jethro Tull Canned Salmon". I've been searching the internet for that shirt ever since. Yeah, totally random. Later.

Keep looking, u might find one. I forget which tour those were available on, i will say 89 but anywhere between 88 and 93. I had one for many years before it wore out. I have seen fish farm employees wearing them i think, i remember Ian had a hat with that logo on it, and i think he might address the use of his image in that, I think, great on both parts Letterman interview from 82, I forget, I have heard him mention the use of his likeness in some interview.

Can't remember what the Strathaird shirts were like but Ms Nonrabbit will find them if they're out there somewhere - the only thing that IA had his image on as far as I know was the outer wrapping of the Salmon that was sold by the company. Since posting the above I seem to recollect that the Strathaird clothing (t shirt, baseball hat(?)) were just for employees/family etc.

Nope, that is the image that was on the t shirt I bought and wore for years. Also you can see Ian on one of those period interviews, or more, from somewhere in 88 to 93 wearing a hat with that image on it, also on a letter my girfriend received from him in 84.

Hello all,
Stand Up was the first "Rock" album I ever heard and liked (at age 13). I thought all rock albums had terrible music (no melody). I was quite a critic at age 13. Before that it was top 30 pop (Petula Clark's "My Love" was first single I ever owned followed by "Downtown"). See how we progress. After hearing Stand Up, I bought the Benefit album which came out here in the USA (for $2.98), then bought Stand Up which I already had on 8-track tape recorded by a friend (bootleg, don't tell anybody). Tull became my favorite group and as they say the rest is history. Own almost every album/CD and helped make Ian rich. Not to mention the many concerts I have attended (at least 10).
I got to meet Martin and Doane in Indio, CA at the Fantasy Springs Casino about two years ago. They were both very nice and seemed to be enjoying themselves (rode the elevator up with Martin).
Oh well, just wanted to give a short blurb about myself and I am looking forward to the Carnegie Hall Concert on the new Stand Up Deluxe re-issue. Thanks for all the info and pictures on this site.
Bob
PS. If Ian wants to reimburse me for any of the last 40 years I am open to that.
PS#2 - I just listened to the Carnegie Hall concert and it was great. Blasted on my system at 5.1 DTS. My first concert was Passion Play but I had bootlegs of the concerts before. This is very good and I am glad I bought it,. I highly recommend it. Makes me feel like at the concert itself. Very good addition.

Welcome along to the Jethro Tull Forum rwb1921 and we look forward to reading all your thoughts about the band and please feel free to jump in at any time on any subject. It's always interesting to read about the first record(s) folks bought or, as in many cases, had bought for them. Mine were Running Bear by Johnny Preston and Dream Lover by Bobby Darin, the latter who I first heard at an outdoor swimming baths in Epsom where they had a juke box by the side of the pool.

A question for Steven Wilson: Clive Bunker told me a few weeks ago that recording Aqualung was difficult, because Ian Anderson did not know in the beginning of the process how to materialize the vision he had in his mind. Are there any signs left in the remaining tapes of this attempt to attain the goal? Would it be possible to reconstruct the creative process behind the final outcome? Best, Juha Helsinki Finland Hi Juha and welcome to The Jethro Tull Forum. Thank you for participating in the Steven Wilson thread and I hope that you'll find loads of other interesting items here. Feel free to have a good look around. MD

Hi I'm Son from Victoria BC. I just joined. I'm a Jethro Tull fan from 1970 to the present, still with a full head of hair. I attended the Jethro Tull show in Vancouver June 19 2011. It was show number 15 starting in 1972. Martin Barre was playing thick chords and jaw-dropping runs most guitarists only dream of. 10 out of 10. I look forward to chatting with you Tull fans. cheerio
