Thank you Maddogfagin and Bunkerfan. I've done some poking around, and there certainly is plenty to discover here. I look forward to reading more and contributing to the discussions. For me, it's all about the craft of songwriting and the spark of emotion awakened in the listener. I find Ian to be an inspiration in that regard, so I would like to see how others are triggered emotionally and intellectually by this music.

I agree, oh and WELCOME! I feel like we've had some "how'd that make you feel" threads. I'll have to search though. Again welcome and enjoy exploring the place!

Thanks, rredmond! Are you a writer?

I have written stuff, but I'm not a writer. Probably a failed writer, as Creative Writing was my first college major. Quickly switched to teaching and social work. The only writing I do now is just for old school D&D stuff and games. Intrigued as to why you asked, but enjoyed the trip down memory lane!

rredmond, when you said you agree with my "hello" statement about Ian as an influence, I got the sense that you had writing somewhere in your blood. I'm looking to connect with other writers/songwriters to discuss song meanings and how JT songs can be interpreted in different ways. I like the open-ended qualities of lyrics that allow individuals to paint their imaginations with different colors and nuances. Micheal Stipe from R.E.M. is another guy who puts up "painting"s that can be seen in different ways depending upon the experiences of the listener/viewer.

Oh I am a lover of the lyrics painting a picture, and enjoy those "pictures", I'm just not one to paint them that well. Though Ian absolutely does! You, on the other hand, do pretty well with this type of thing. Welcome again!

Micheal Stipe from R.E.M. is another guy who puts up "painting"s that can be seen in different ways depending upon the experiences of the listener/viewer. I am a writer too: commercially unsuccessful, but actually still much enjoying writing (and also traducing from English to Italian). I have several novels published (in italian) that nobody bought, and some short stories in my blog (that nobody reads)
I have never thought about possible JT influences on my creative writing, as far as I can realize it now, the only IA influence has been in a couple of short stories. One features an old rocker of the sixties and seventies among the main characters, who pops up to destabilize and change to the lives of the other characters, young musicians of today. This character is inspired by IA and also by Daevid Allen of Gong (and probably others too). The other short story is actually a fairy tale, which is inspired by the JT song Look at the Animals (from the Chateau D'Isaster tapes). There may have been more influences, since IA and JT are always in my mind, but I can't find them now. After all this is a presentation thread, so it is not inappropriate if I have talked about myself, in this answer to hueycuff message... Or is it?

After all this is a presentation thread, so it is not inappropriate if I have talked about myself, in this answer to hueycuff message... Or is it? It's a pretty easy going forum. You're talking Tull, so you're good!

Hello from a new member who, after discovering JT via Songs From the Wood and The Broadsword and the Beast at Uni in the mid 80s, had a bit of a falling out over Under Wraps. However, the Best Of albums (in their various guises) have remained in my playlist for decades. I finally got to see the great Mr Anderson on his Homo Erraticus tour (a good, solid album, but outshone by the classic Tull second half of the concert) but only really dabbled with the later Tull and solo IA albums. I'm not sure whether it's been working from home during the pandemic when I've had more time to listen, but I've been working my way through all of the albums and have rediscovered my, well, passion, I suppose, for all things Tull. Maybe I have the Zealot Gene Anyway, I happened upon this forum and am looking forward to news, updates and interesting discussions

Gidday all. I'm from Australia. I used to listen to Jethro Tull as a teenager. My favourite album was (surprise, surprise) Living in the Past. The band came up on YouTube and I've spent the past couple of days reminiscing. He is such a phenomenal showman.
I actually joined the forum because I'm trying to get information on a record they made, in which my brother's school was the backing choir in a song. My brother was in that choir and I asked him a few years ago if he still had the record and he said no. I was very disappointed, as I would have liked to have got it onto a disc.
Not sure what section of the forum I should go in, to ask if anyone would know the particular album, or would know how I could find out, and find a copy.

Most likely your brother has a vivid imagination. Or maybe it was another band.

I can't remember Tull ever making a record with a school choir but if you come up with any answers please post them.
