I won't be giving up just yet, but I'm not having any luck at all, I don't understand how there can be so few members at the moment, about five have joined since I joined, and that was only a few days ago. I go on IMDb a fair amount, and I've posted a couple of things on there about this forum, but, obviously, they don't like it if you keep doing it (to be fair, it is a bit cheeky) so I can't be constantly plastering all of its boards with Jethro Tull-related posts. Although many IMDb users are abusive (frighteningly so), it is one of the world's biggest forums, if not the biggest, so it's got to be a good place to find new recruits. In a few weeks, I'll most probably be able to persuade a couple of people I know in "the real world" to join, but, apart from that, there isn't much else I can do. I think a serious brainstorming session is needed at this point, if we can come up with some actual tactics we'd have a better chance of getting some more members. Obviously, the members will come eventually, but when I visit this forum I'm usually the only member logged in, so we definitely need more members, you know what they say: "the more the merrier", and the sooner the better, in my opinion. Any ideas, anyone? Good man! but there's no wages involved - you know that don't you Got a few ideas going around at the moment - got to clear it with the management In the meantime I'm putting the word around myspace anyone on Facebook perhaps could do the same or any other site?

Hi, 2old2...(clever handle... ) - Welcome to our little blue patch of Tulliness. The numbers aren't terrific-ly high at the moment. But what we lack in numbers, I think we make up for with quality and commitment. Hopefully when people drop in whether because they're Tull fans or just curious, they'll stay because of the aforementioned attributes. I am new to Tull boards and sort of new to Tull in general. The pooled knowledge on this board is staggering sometimes. I am learning a lot. But it also is great fun, and can be downright silly at times! Which is one of the things I love about it.... It is great that you are out there banging the drum, and trying to get people to come here. Good for you! As you said...the more the merrier...

Couldn't agree more In the final analysis IMO it’s all down to publicity to make the public aware that IA and the Band are still touring, if not exactly forthcoming with newly recorded material. The days of Tull being on the front page of music mags are long gone and so are the days of Chrysalis et al “pulling out the stops” to promote tours and albums. One of the better forms of publicity are the younger fans who can, and I expect do, promote the band amongst their circle of friends. If Tull were to get a good publicist I would expect more people would go to concerts and buy the back catalogue and maybe even join this forum. More could be made of the fact that Island Records celebrate their 50th Anniversary this year and as Tull played an very important role in the label’s popularity in the UK in the late 60’s should not be more made of this? Apart from the book of the label’s history, which I’ve not seen, the only magazines to feature the band in recent months, that I have seen, have been Record Collector, Mojo and Classic Rock. But until then, Tull are probably now seen as a “cottage industry” as witness the many times I’ve had to say “yes they are still touring” when I’ve heard it stated by those who I’ve spoken to “oh I thought they had broken up years ago”.

I saw Tull playing some outdoor gig in the south-east of England somewhere (Royal Tunbridge Wells?), they were being supported by The Stranglers (minus Hugh Cornwell). Most of the audience were clearly there to see The Stranglers, and many of them simply didn't know who Jethro Tull were. I actually heard someone say, with not a trace of irony, "I hope they play I've Got A Brand New Combine Harvester". If, at that precise moment in time, someone had put a gun in my hand, I probably would have shot her, I can see the funny side to it now, of course, but, at the time, I was not happy. More shocking, and annoying, than that was the blatant disrespect there was from some people: laughing at Jethro Tull, saying they wanted The Stranglers to do an encore, etc. It really annoyed me at the time, but the simple fact remains: Jethro Tull just aren't that well known these days, especially amongst young people. I've got to be pretty young for a Tull fan, and how my brother and I got into them was purely by chance (they weren't even recommended to us, someone gave my brother M.U. in exchange for him going down the shop for the bloke, which shows you how much he cared about Tull), my father had actually been a Tull fan back in the day but he'd "lost" all of his records by that point, even he was surprised to learn that they're still touring, recording (every now and again), etc. It's a real shame that more young people aren't exposed to music from the likes of Jethro Tull.

I went to that one too. Funny line up wasn't it? sometimes they work and sometimes they don't and this time I think it didn't. I thought mostly autumn were excellent but other than that it wasn't really a great festival. It was badly organised and Tull came on late and only played a short set with no encore. I could see that it was one of those get it over with type shows and not a vintage Tull performance. Pretty good, but no real sparkle. My enduring image of that day is Ian doing his twirly hands thing at the end of Aqualung and stopping halfway up to look at his watch, with an obvious expression of 'thank god that's over'!!

I don't remember the watch thing - it sort of rings a bell, but I was pretty hammered by that point (I remember them playing For A Thousand Mothers very clearly, that show was the first time I'd ever heard Boris Dancing so that stayed with me, and I can remember Bouree and Mother Goose but after that it gets a bit hazey, shameful really, and a waste of money, but you live and learn), but, yeah, it was a short set. They weren't bad (from what I remember), but, had the audience been more supportive, they possibly wouldn't have been so keen to get it over with, but I think there was a curfew or something anyway.

Lol, we've all done it sometime. And it was definitely one of those days you had to drink your way out of. The Gravesend Tull convention in 89 rings a bell with me. The bar was open all day and we were meeting people, chatting and generaly having a good time for so long that we ended up having a great evening.......I think!

I've been pretty bad with that kind of thing over the years, but missing most of a Queens Of The Stone Age gig due to falling asleep/passing out in a festival toilet just about takes the cake. That is not a good place to wake up with a hangover, I can tell you. On top of that, I could hear QOTSA playing in the background when I woke up, and in my haggard state, climbing the fence seemed like a great idea. Unfortunately, the security guys didn't feel the same way as me, and chucked me out of the festival, but a couple of nice security guys let me back in, drove me all the way to where QOTSA were still playing, and I caught the end of their set. Which was nice.
I do think, however, that getting smashed at a Tull show was worse, just because it's Jethro Tull, and I hardly ever get to see them, they were even playing in Wiltshire a month or so ago, and I couldn't go. I mean, just imagine that that was my last Tull experience, I'd be devastated, traumatised even, well, maybe not traumatised, but I'd be pretty upset, that's for sure.
