I have long wondered what these lines mean or refer to?
The legends (worded in the ancient tribal hymn) lie cradle in the seagull's call And all the promises they made are ground beneath the sadist's fall
Can you hear the sadness in the seagull's cry-in the otherwise silent distance? The gulls were there, they were present and listening, when those ancient hymns were sung by a religious order or people group thousands of years ago. An enemy, a sadist, somehow interfered with their sacred traditions, destroying or silencing what was of great value to them. I have no idea--just thoughts. Seems Anderson has a specific purpose in mind with the words he chooses to convey his thoughts. I always want to know what he was trying to say. He is a true genius and my favorite songs move my heart or my mind, or both. He could sculpt art as beautiful with words and music as Michelangelo did with stone and Rembrandt with paint.
