Yes...Hooray...good name and a clue....craziness of our species thru the ages. Homo erratic Us. OR...The wandering, erratic, rover(ing) Man (Minstrel) I'm looking forward to the songs/lyrics BUT slight cop out maybe on the theme? "it chronicles the weird imaginings of one Ernest T Parritt,.." "came across this dusty, unpublished manuscript, written by local amateur historian.." " awoke with the overwhelming conviction of having enjoyed past lives as historical characters: a pre-history nomadic neolithic settler, an Iron Age blacksmith, a Saxon invader, a Christian monk, a Seventeenth Century grammar school boy, turnpike innkeeper, one of Brunel’s railroad engineers, and even Prince Albert, husband of Queen Victoria. This befuddled, delusional obsession extends to his prophecy of future events and his fantasy imaginings of lives yet to come…..."
Haven't we heard something like this before?

On first read about the new album, there may be a real controversy brewing.
I can totally understand the meaning of "Homo Erraticus" and it's inspiration being from "Homo Britannicus". The evolution of society in the U.K. is always a subject worth exploring and based on real science.
With some who have a difficult time with that based on religion, there may be a backlash as was in the early 70's with the album "Aqualung". Not to offend anyone that doubts evolution is sometimes a lost cause.
On the other more likely issue, the name 'Homo' anything is part of the social fabric which is "Homo-Phobia". Just as the word "Fag" can be used in a hateful way, the word "Homo" is also a slur towards many who are gay. The idea that Ian can use this title to create a concept album is somewhat risky.
With many fans who are less tolerant, we could see an immediate dislike for the name in general. With fans who are more enlightened, I think it works quite well. The real test will come in April. If this album is as musically exciting as the last one (TAAB2), there should be even more interest than ever.
I hope the negativity of others does not create a form of 'Tull-a-Phobia'... We shall see.

I think if there's any controversy religion wise it'll probably be more US based. The use of the word 'Homo' will only raise a mild titter over here besides most people aren't aware if the term is offensive or not. My take on the title is 'Man's wanderings' and referring to his (or GB's) wanderings through life both in travel and in choices. It's a slightly ambiguous title and people will read what they want in to it - as if the auld sod didn't know that. I wish he'd chosen another theme as the TAAB/GB one is well taken care of now.

OK by me as a title but I just prey that the "powers that be" don't issue it in a brown paper bag as Track Records did with Jimi's "Electric Ladyland" album back in '68 at the behest of a very few record stores here in the UK. Interesting article about the genus of hominids at wikipedia en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Homo

I read Homo Britannicus a few years ago - quite interesting (if you're into that sort of thing!). Only problem was, sat with it on the train, I felt just a little self conscious that folk would think I was reading a book about, er, sexual preferences ....... Daft I know, but I guess that ties in with some of the other comments above!

Homo Britannicus filed among gay literature The Homo Britannicus - known as the renowned encyclopedia of the history of man - was filed away in the gay and lesbian section by librarians who did not register the title. The U.S. is polarized over many issues these days. Religion steps in just to stir things up. Our more conservative fans will now have to decide how far they can go with a thought provoking form of music.
If the Martin Barre exclusion is bad to some, they may try to argue even more about this new direction. I'm already hearing the grumblings about that and will not be surprised when they use the name 'Homo Tull Tour'.
Ian wants to fulfill his own dreams in writing lyrics this way. I can relate to almost everything he writes about. The TAAB theme has worked twice to great success. It probably will be the final chapter in this trilogy.
Okay Gerald, where's my Homo Erraticus t-shirt? I can't wait. Let's Rock!

...and I thought we might see a (nudge, nudge, wink, wink,) dinosaur on the cover. Homo erectus, meaning, 'Upright Man', was our first major direct 'homo' genus hominid ancestor - though our direct hominid ancestors go back further in the Australopithecines and others. They lived between 1.5 Million and 50,000 years ago. Homo erectus was by far the most successful human in terms of time existing; we have been around as our specific subspecies homo sapiens sapiens for just 10,000 years (200,000 years for full genus Homo Sapiens). Homo Erectus - Walking with dinosaurs. walkingwithdinos.wikia.com/wiki/Homo_Erectus-------------------------------------------------------- historymoment.blogspot.ca/2010_04_01_archive.htmlDoes Ian look happy in this snap? (stop me) ----------------------------------------------------------------- A false;>) Erraticus uncyclopedia.wikia.com/wiki/ErraticusBust of Erraticus, the inconsistent Roman historian.

And just when you thought it was safe to open the door, a load of different types of genus' (genera, genuses ?) of hominids come along at the same time.

Why didn't Ian just call it "A Passion Play 2"?

Why didn't Ian just call it "A Passion Play 2"? Ian Anderson should put out an album titled Jethro Tull - put the old seed driller on the cover, and confuse all store clerks as to where to file this Ian Anderson Jethro Tull album.

I'm as excited as the next Tull anorak for the new album and I like the title however given his explanation about the theme; "...enjoyed past lives as historical characters: a pre-history nomadic Neolithic settler, an Iron Age blacksmith, a Saxon invader, a Christian monk..." The line is indeed fine betwixt Prog and Tapster - is he going to tread lightly or is it yet another parody on a parody? i43.images obliterated by tinypic/10hlj0w.png[/IMG]

Alternative title should be ' Nortius Maximus' Just hope we don't have to go back to school and learn Latin
