Thanks, tootull, for this.
Unhappy news, but it's good that you were on top of things.
We at least have the opportunity to send our best wishes to Mick that he has a full and speedy recovery.

According to the official website, Mick's site has reported that he had a stroke as well as a heart attack. Up and coming gigs have been cancelled, which is only to be expected, and on behalf of all Tull and music fans we wish him a speedy recovery.

Just received the following email from Glenn Cornick to the members of this Forum:
Further to our talk of Mick Abrahams, I just heard today that he is in Hospital after suffering a major heart attack and stroke. Though he and I never saw eye to eye, I am hoping the best for him. Please pass the info along to the members of the Tull Forum and suggest that they may want to send best wishes via his website. Glenn

Have now received this further email from Glenn:
I spoke to Mick's wife, Kate yesterday and he's home and having of to be very careful. His speech is of course impaired and it might be a long time till he picks up a guitar! Glenn
I've thanked Glenn, on behalf of the Forum, for this news. At least he's out of hospital and on the road to recovery.

The latest from Mick's site at www.mickaby.freeola.comMick sends his greetings and best wishes to all of you and most especially, those who have been instrumental in keeping his spirits up ! Mick has cancelled all of his live gigs for one year to give himself the chance to play again and believe me, he is working hard at it. Mick is now suffering from a very debilitating bout of meniers disease, which is an inner ear problem and affect the balance severely . He hopes to be able to do some teaching for slide players and will focus on chord tunings and bottle neck techniques . It will be posted up as soon as possible. Needless to say, Mick is much more positive and up beat about the future and although still a sick man , he is on the mend , slowly but surely. The new "Vintage" S G M.A. signature model guitar is now available and we thoroughly recommend that you check them out . The last word is from the man himself.
Hi folks, thank for all your thoughts, cards, and free toilet paper ! Sorry' couldn't resist the last bit ! You'll be seeing less of me soon as I am now a lot less weight than last year. I am now averaging fifteen and a half stone as opposed to the nineteen stone plus that I used to be and still , losing ! and I thought I was living a healthy lifestyle ! anyway it's helped me greatly losing the pudding but it's not the diet I would recommend ! I look forward to seeing you all soon and in top form . God Bless. Mick Abrahams April 2010

What a great man and what an honor to be, in our own teeny,, few steps away removed manner, somehow able to send him our good wishes, love and admiration and hopes for full recovery and return to playing live. Just listened to the M.A. solo album (Greyhound Bus) this AM.

I was going through my Blodwyn Pig items and found the details and some photos from a Pig gig from 21 January 1989 at the Cosgrove Lodge near Milton Keynes. From what I can remember some of us got a phone call from Dave Rees informing us of the gig and we dutifully went to support Mick and the band. I think it must have been around the time that he'd had enough of being a financial advisor and wanted to reform the band in some form or another. The set list was: It's Only Love My Babe Pinetop's Boogie Woogie Black Night is Falling Let Me Love You Baby So Much Trouble Dear Jill Back Home Cat's Squirrel The Night Train I Wonder Who Rock Me Baby I've Got My Mojo Working The personnel were Mick Abrahams - guitar and vocals Dick Heckstall-Smith - saxophones Andy Pyle - bass Clive Bunker - drums Bruce Boardman - keyboards Listening back to the tapes after all these years, Mick made the right decision to get back to performing.

No sooner did I imperiously declare New Day's archeological coup on the Evan's band live in 66 as their finest moment..... you remind me of the role they played in restoring Mick to live and recorded appearances...No way of knowing if Mick would have found his way back to the stage and the studio anyway...i tend to think 'yes'...but they get big points for that too.

He sure is Ray. This is what Mick says about Freemasonry in his autobiography "What Is A Wommett".
It's now 2008 as I am finishing this account of my life in music and its twists and turns. I will have passed my 65th birthday in April by the time this account is published (and hopefully being read by millions of people). And there are so many great things happening this year that it promises to be my busiest year for a while now. Over the last couple of years gigs have not been as forthcoming as they have been m the past, and to be honest I'm not bothered about trudging out every other day to gigs. I just choose when and where I want to play and spend a lot of my time writing and composing and doing the odd session for other projects.
In 2003 I did something which I had been meaning to do but had been putting off for some time and finally became a Freemason, which is one of the best decisions I have made. I belong to two Lodges, one known as my Mother Lodge (the Lodge where I was first initiated into Freemasonry), Chelsea Lodge Number 3098, whose members are musicians and guys associated with the entertainment industry in general. We meet at Freemasons Hall in Great Queen Street, London, which is also the home of the United Grand Lodge of England and we have a great time every time we meet. We also do the Chelsea Road Show which raises funds for various charities and worthy causes and it is immensely rewarding to entertain the brethren of the various lodges up and down the country and the general public too and to know that what we do is truly worthwhile.
I am also a member of a local Lodge, Brickhill Lodge number 6968, which is near to my home and the members there are from mixed backgrounds and trades. It is also (as all Freemasons Lodges are) a great Lodge for charity fund raising and the fellowship again is wonderful. I have made many new friends since joining Freemasonry and have been constantly very pleasantly surprised to find just how many guys that I have known for some time are brothers too. I feel like I am part of a universally spread brotherhood and as I was brought up as an only child it feels like a great big extended family. As a believing Christian and a member of a church it has also helped my faith to grow. The strange thing about Freemasonry is that it comes under criticism from extreme groups in some churches, but for me there is absolutely no conflict as Freemasonry is definitely not a religion and does not purport to be so. It is about morality, growth and strength of character.

Mr G, thanks so much for the effort, I mean, even years into it this device here is a miracle. I know one program I saw on the Mason's from some time back was not from an extremist view, I think it was on public television, and some of the report was pretty dark. Additionally, a very close friend, extremist in a good way, I have heard to speak with foreboding about the Masons. Frankly I know alot more about relatively useless stuff, like the current state of the Chicago Bulls or Cubs. Likely any human organization that dates back, I believe into the thousands of years will likely have loads of blood on its hands, I do recall that program had heavy coverage of the Mason's involvement with the Crusade's, slavery, immense wealth, also I think all but one of the people signing the American Declaratation of Independence was a Mason was also mentioned, not that that in itself is evil, at least not until dots start getting connected. But...who knows, on with the sordid show. One thing for certain, from the first time DRees got his hands on old Mick at least twenty years ago coming thru clearly was and is....I really like that guy.

My Dad was a Mason and, to his credit, only asked me once if I would like to join which I declined as I've never been one to join ultra secretive societies. Yes I know that they do a lot for charity but his local lodge had police chiefs, local business men, local politicians etc etc and often thought that in some cases there would be a conflict of interests which would not have been good for us folk not in the brotherhood.
