They were hot that tour....like a young athelete off the bench... Martin Allcock brought very rock and roll energy to the stage...and great playing. I was amazed at how versatile Maart was and is. He made ROCK !

He made ROCK ! I was always impressed with Maart in the line up - they played some great sets - loved that touring period. I think he just fitted in perfectly. I spoke with him at a Fairport gig just at the time he left Tull - He signed a 'Rocks on the Road' promo leaflet for me which was advertising an American tour - I had no idea he would not be touring with Tull - so he signed it with the words "Was there in Spirit" ...nice touch...nice guy. That was a good one...snuck in early and tried to blend in to see soundcheck....talked with Ian for about 30 seconds and was then shown to the door and advised to come back at the time noted on my ticket. Followed them south to LA where i saw the concert that included tantrum (pot smoking in front row) and cancellation of following night.

That gig didn't sell out so Gerd gave me a bunch of tickets for impoverished bike messengers, mostly of the punk generation, but willing to see Tull...the sound was dreadful so my hopes of converting or at least impressing some of the young uns were sort of dashed...I mean terrible sound. After seeing that tour in german venues earlier in the fall, with wonderful sound and responsive audiences, the home town gig was a bit of a letdown. I think Tull were tired by then, too....Crest was a long, long tour after a couple very restful years !

Ian & Co have been on BBC radio many times - here are a couple of instances 30 August 1989 Broadcasting House London, UK Ian Interviewed by Judith Chalmers on BBC Radio 2 Interview, incl. Bourée 9 September 1989 BBC Radio 1 Saturday Rock Show Interview, Another Christmas Song, Bourée, Locomotive Breath The BBC has undergone a bit of a revamp over the last 10 years. Many radio and tv programmes moved to the Media Centre in Salford while the remainder stayed in London but anomalies exist such as BBC Radio 6 broadcasts programmes both from London and Salford with large concerts from established artists being broadcast from the various BBC music studios such as Lime Grove in London. BBC local radio is still regional but some local stations share programmes in the weekday evenings and for sporting events. So . . . please stand to attention and salute the BBC

9 February 1969 Labor Temple Minneapolis, Mn. USA[Listed on the Ministry site as Lobor Temple] Also appearing: Rotary Connection. minniepaulmusic.com/?page_id=3545In January, 1969, David began to rent the third floor of the Labor Temple in Minneapolis (117 SE 4th Street) and started holding concerts on Sunday nights, featuring national (and international bands). The first concert was held on February 2, 1969 and featured The Grateful Dead with local band Blackwood Apology opening up with their rock opera called “House of Leather.” The third floor was packed and people were turned away at the door due to the lack of room. Community News, a local company, began doing the light shows for the concerts, using home made “movie screens” draped across the back of the stage. The bands that played the Sunday night concerts included: Procol Harum; Buddy Miles Express; Rotary Connection; Jethro Tull; Pacific Gas and Electric; Savoy Brown; Spirit; Mother Earth; Canned Heat; Deep Purple; Jeff Beck; Sweetwater; Serfs; Illinois Speed Press; Albert King; Aorta; Muddy Waters; Mojo Buford; Dr. John; John Lee Hooker; MC-5; Cottonwood; Country Joe and the Fish; the Byrds; Rugby’s; the Allman Brothers; John Hammond; Youngbloods; Small Faces with Rod Stewart; Alice Cooper; Golden Earring; Fifth Avenue Band; Fever Tree; Grand Funk Railroad; Ten Years After; Johnny (and Edgar) Winter; Tony William’s Lifetime with Jack Bruce; and Buffy Sainte Marie. Local bands would often open up for the headliners including: Blackwood Apology; Jokers Wild; Spider John Koerner and Willy Murphy; Zarathustra; Skin Trade; Stillroven; Ken Schaeffer; Daybreak; Flash Tuesday; Triad; the Litter; and Thundertree. Late 1968 Jimmy's Brighton, UK www.ministry-of-information.co.uk/Tull played here in 'late 1968'; the precise date is unknown. Audience: ~60, sitting on the floor. An audience member recalls that Ian shared out cigarettes and held his own between the frets of his guitar as he played www.mybrightonandhove.org.uk/page_id__10765.aspxA fairly unremarkable pub In the 1960s there used to be a fairly unremarkable pub called Jimmy’s in a little back street off Old Steine. It did, however, have a reasonable sized function room upstairs and once a week on Thursday nights it was transformed into arguably Brighton’s best ever live music venue, run by the UOS Blues Society. In the 2 years during which a crowd of us were regulars we saw blues legends Mississippi Fred McDowell and Champion Jack Dupree, stalwarts of the 60s British blues boom such as Savoy Brown, Chicken Shack and Jo-Ann Kelly, and bands in their very early days who went on to become household names like Jethro Tull, Free and Mott the Hoople. [ Finally found some photographic evidence of this venue after some research on the internet. The name "Jimmys" can just be seen about halfway up the front of the building and, if there were no other entrances to the club, it must have been a nightmare getting equipment to the upstairs floor.]

Good chance TooTull was at that one. Yes, Rock Island tour was changed to Hamilton from Maple Leaf Gardens, Toronto because of a feud over concert rights. Last of the arena rock concerts for Tull.
