It was at this gig, very well received in Italy a few days after dressing room tapes in Zurich, that I confirmed Ian's thriftiness. Hand rolled cigarettes. Checked and argued about bill in restaurant after gig. Per Gerd, there was a trend in Italy of 'special charges' to English speaking, travelling entertainer parties. Ian was thrifty, not paranoid. A few days later, intoxicated in Venice, heard about massive SF earthquake.
My best Tull tour ever...saw them in London, Hamburg, Essen, Koblentz, Zurich and Milan. 5 Countries in less than three weeks...Strange Avenues, indeed. Gerd very friendly with tickets and passes but sequestered us away from dressing room tape session...literally.....Parked four of us in small, backstage area with handful of fruits and snacks while band generated 'backstage session' nearby. We thought we were getting VIP treatment, in fact, we were like dogs in a crate.

I agree and while I'm on thank you very much Sir Maddogfagin for showing us what these fine buildings look like. I've looked at Tull tours over the years and it's so nice to be able to have an image of the venues to go with the name. Cheers!

Credit where credit is due...to Patti for saying 'That's some building' instead of the more accurate: 'Quite an erection'. This thread IS amazing.

25 May 1993 Corn Exchange Cambridge, UK Apparently 'in association with Chiltern Radio', so presumably broadcast. My Sunday Feeling, For A Thousand Mothers, Living In The Past, Bourée/Soirée, So Much Trouble, With You There To Help Me, In The Grip Of Stronger Stuff, Bug, Black Sunday, Sossity: You're A Woman/Reasons For Waiting, Songs From The Wood/Too Old To Rock'N'Roll.../Heavy Horses, Later That Same Evening (inst.), The Waking Edge, Thick As A Brick, Andy Gidding's Parrot, Budapest, A New Day Yesterday/Kelpie (inst.), Farm On The Freeway, This Is Not Love, Dharma For One, Aqualung, Locomotive Breath, Passion Jig/A Song For Jeffrey (intro)/Cross-Eyed Mary/Seal Driver (inst.)/Black Sunday (reprise)/Passion Jig(reprise) www.ministry-of-information.co.uk/en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cambridge_Corn_ExchangeI'm fairly certain that this concert wasn't broadcast by Chiltern Radio as no bootlegs seem to exist from this UK date. Which begs the question that if the station recorded it where are the tapes ? I just wonder how many were wiped worldwide and no longer exist. There are likely many "official" radio station recordings that never made it on air - I know of at least two that never went out over the airways from London's Capital Radio at the time that Alan Freeman jumped ship and rejoined BBC Radio 1 in January 1989, for example.

Worst Tull venue that I ever saw the band play was at the Swindon Leisure Centre - a venue that Onewhiteduck also mentioned as being bad. Bad is giving it some sort of credibility - maybe appalling is a better word

The concert disrupted their bowling activities and one of my fellow attendees was told told in no uncertain terms that they wouldn't allow him to have a pre concert swim in the pool as "he wasn't local". Takes all sorts

The casinos and county fairs have been the lowest level venues in my experiences. Tull gig as an afterthought to carnival rides or gambling is depressing...although I must admit, the casinos do have the money to build nice performance spaces. I get the impression that concerts are booked to fit the calender and travel logistics more than the dignity and comfort of the venue.

I get the impression that concerts are booked to fit the calender and travel logistics more than the dignity and comfort of the venue. In the UK it was the dreaded leisure centres complete with extra curricular activities mainly swimming pools and bowling. The actual concert area seemed always to be situated right next to the pool so both got the noise from the other which wasn't helpful to either side. I do love the old theatres which have been brought up to standard to meet the requirements of the 21st century, both here and overseas - there are some splendid ones in the US which Jim has highlighted in his scenic tours
