19 October 1984 Spectrum Philadelphia, Pa. USASupport: Honeymoon Suite. During the intro, a saxophonist in stocking mask and 'Under Wraps' attire briefly appeared from the rear of the first level whilst instruments and musicians were unwrapped on stage. At the end of 'Nobody's Car' Ian unwrapped a topless woman, who left the stage. Presumably these stunts were performed at all concerts – they definitely weren't specific to this concert. Under Wraps (intro), Locomotive Breath (inst. intro)/Hunting Girl, Under Wraps, Later That Same Evening, Nobody's Car, Apogee, Thick As A Brick/Level Pegging, Skating Away..., Clasp, Living In The Past (inst.), Serenade To A Cuckoo, Fat Man, Drum Solo, Fly By Night, Black Sunday, Aqualung, Locomotive Breath, Too Old To Rock'N'Roll/Different Germany (inst.)/Thick as a Brick (reprise) www.ministry-of-information.co.uk/en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spectrum_(arena)

Thank's to the DVD from Passaic, New Jersey I can watch this over and over and over and over and...

It's incredible the different types of venues and the amount of them over the decades.
I wonder if the Headmaster has seen this thread?

Lots of shows recently have been in smaller venues with lots of artistic charm. Sadly the last show by Prince was at the Fox Theatre last week... It happened before TULL was there. I will prefer to remember it as the place where I had the most fun I've had so far. Ian liked it too.

And it would be interesting if any of the original members of both Tull and TJEB remember any of the smaller venues from the middle to late 60s. So many don't exist anymore and many have also changed name a few times which makes it almost impossible to track them down. On that note we must thank the hard work that goes into the Ministry Of Information website as due to their endeavours most early venues would have been forgotten about www.ministry-of-information.co.uk/

23 July 1976 Shea Stadium Flushing, NY. USABBC Scotland later claimed that this was the first rock concert at this venue since The Beatles; not true. With 'Tull-avision'. Audience: ~50,000. Support: Robin Trower, Rory Gallagher. In 2011, Ian recalled this as his worst concert ever; struggling to be heard over jets landing at the adjacent La Guardia airport and a noisy crowd setting-off firecrackers – and being dowsed in urine thrown by a 'fan' as Tull went on stage. Ian played on anyway. Thick As A Brick, To Cry You A Song, A New Day Yesterday (w. flute solo, incl. Bourée)/Living In The Past, Too Old To Rock'N'Roll..., Minstrel In The Gallery, Beethoven's Ninth, My God, Cross-Eyed Mary, Encore: Guitar Solo, Wind Up, Back-Door Angels, Locomotive Breath/Wind Up (reprise), Dambusters March/Back Door Angels (reprise) www.ministry-of-information.co.uk/en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shea_Stadium

With Jim's scenic tour of current venues, he and I will probably meet up in a couple of years with the venues for 2012, or there abouts In the meantime, anyone feel free to post a picture of a venue of your choice, either good, bad, ugly, indifferent or now just a pile of demolished concrete and bricks somewhere.

5 May 1973 Littlejohn Coliseum, Clemson U. Clemson, SC. USAThe band's equipment arrived late, so there was no time for the support band (Brewer and Shipley) to play, the soundcheck was done in front of the audience, and since they did not begin until 10pm, Ian apologised to the audience then Tull skipped 'A Passion Play' completely, instead performing the same set as earlier in the year. 'Lifebeats' intro (with the film), Thick As A Brick (including organ, flute and drum solos), Cross-Eyed Mary, Left Right, Audition, Aqualung, Wind Up, Instrumental, No Rehearsal, Locomotive Breath, Hard-Headed English General , Wind-Up (reprise) www.ministry-of-information.co.uk/en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Littlejohn_Coliseum

I'm guessing that the sound in the Corral was a little boomy! The Saddledome, located directly behind the Corral in that photo, was less boomy, but still, an arena situation with some audio reflection problems. Now they're talking about building a new sports complex for hockey, football and kayaking in floods downtown, so we'll see how the audio is in the NEXT edition of "hey, play in Calgary, we have a stage here!" NOTE: at a much later date than mentioned in that original post, I saw Tull in downtown Calgary at the Jack Singer Auditorium, the premium concert hall where the symphony and best acts play, with premium sound. Smaller, but of course, clear as a bell, and only half as stuffy as a grade 11 English class. I don't know how to make concerts better, but the formality of some performance halls makes me feel very repressed, and it inhibits the event, which the performers are then forced to overcome. Oh well.

Concert Hall Calgary. That's a great pic and lovely building.
This is the last time I'm going to make this point that does not need making: this is a brilliant thread and one to spend a lot of time on!!

24 October 1972 Municipal Auditorium Nashville, Tn. USASupport: Tull and Gentle Giant sources report that Gentle Giant were definitely not on the bill, and Tull were possibly supported by Brewer and Shipley. However, two audience members recall that Gentle Giant did appear, and it was the 21/5/73 concert at this venue which was supported by Brewer and Shipley. www.ministry-of-information.co.uk/en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nashville_Municipal_Auditorium
