Just had the chance to go through this - brilliant to see.
The photos - taken in a natural not a staged setting - the handwritten notes of the set and the letters of appreciation are all gems and I feel privileged to see them and all hail to Graham and the rest of the team for their dedication.

Heh heh heh.......Happy days Brings back memories of a manic day (and year)!!! Zob. Welcome to the Forum Zob. Those folks who've viewed the Conventions thread may realise that Zob is the one and only Gerry S. and we worked together on those extravanganzas along with a great many others, one of whom is Sealion aka Graham S. Good to meet up with you again Zob after all these years and as you and I know there's still a wealth of material and stories about those Conventions. Great to have you on board. Will PM you shortly. Maddog/Graham

Bah! My cover is blown again! Bugger!!
As Maddog says, I did have a small role within the organising teams of both the 94 and 96 UK conventions. It was a good time.
Now that I have found you, I will undoubtedly be dipping in from time to time - unfortunately time has a nasty habit of moving on. Maybe we could get together sometime for a beer or six! Shall we arrange another convention? NOOOO!!!!
Gotta go - the men in white coats have arrived to administer pain!!

Yeah, there was some intense work done behind the scenes for all the Conventions which was the main reason we hard an ever growing "committee" of trusted helpers, and comedians. By the way, and in response to some members, what is a "zobstick" ?

Here's Wikipedia's version. The variation of this instrument called the ‘Zob Stick’ was constructed and named in 1968 by percussionist and songwriter Keef Trouble of the band Brett Marvin and the Thunderbolts and Terry Dactyl and the Dinosaurs. It is now, with the term ‘Lagerphone,’ the most commonly used name for this instrument. The Brett Marvin invented term ‘Zob’ was taken from an old risqué UK naval term that has the same meaning in French. The Keef Trouble ‘Zob Stick’ is distinguished by the addition of a sprung-boot attached to the bottom of the pole and a metal sleeve round its centre, this being hit with a serrated wooden stick.
Well, you asked for it

The perennial "support" act from the concerts we saw at the Fairfield Halls in Croydon. Loud, noisy and an excuse to visit the bar before Free or Mott arrived on stage. A recent image of Brett Marvin & The Thunderbolts - it seems the zobstick is on the right of the picture

Just my luck. Everytime I read in AND. about a Tull Convention coming up I was too skint to go, and it makes it worse when I read the programmes and look at the photo's of what great occasions I missed out on. I hope we have another before I meet my maker so at least I can tell him I finally managed to get to one.

And just to think that the Convention raised a large amount of well needed funds for the NSPCC and the Lupus charity. For those folks who don't know, Lupus is an incurable immune system illness, probably genetic in origin and mainly suffered by females although males can catch it as well.

Forum member Danny/valhalla who is a very good friend of mine has been kind enough to give me an 8mm video tape he recorded at the '96 Tull Convention. I'm going through it bit by bit and hopefully I'll be able to edit it into watchable video's to upload to our youtube channel. Here's the first one, I hope it jogs a few memories........Enjoy David, now Dee, Palmer performing at the 1996 UK Jethro Tull Convention held at the Woodville Halls, Gravesend, Kent - 30 November 1996.www.youtube.com/watch?v=dGUAnEDma-EA valhalla/bunkerfan/maddogfagin Production

Thats a brilliant scoop and great work at putting it together Mr Bunker!! I was wondering what you were up to for the last few nights waaay down in the basement of the Forum - don't even mind paying the extra on the leccy bill Seriously, these videos of past appearances at Tull conventions are really interesting and have relaxed, intimate performances that you don't necessarily see at concerts. More please!

Wow...now that's a worthy nugget. Think Ian and the new boys will still be convention friendly after the mega tour or should i just accept that the convention era was a time and place I missed? They go to Italy and Spain for conventions sometimes, right?

Years go by awful damn fast in recent decades Bernie but both the Itullians and the Spanish seem to be just about annual, pretty sure they are both Facebook friends, or people in it, saw some choice pics, one real nice one of Martin and Maarts smiling heads, for real Maart looks related to one of the wee folk, Martin too just maybe.

May have said before somewhere on the Forum but the UK Conventions were a lot of hard work when, in most cases, we were a lot younger and had a great deal of spare time! I don't know the set up for the Italian Conventions but they put in a heck of a lot of hard work, not only co-ordinating gaps in the artists schedule so that they can appear but also having some excellent facilities to hold them in.
