Are Jethro Tull headed back to the UK Top 10 ? LINK By Jerry Ewing ( Prog ) The Official Chart Company reports Jethro Tull are in contention for their highest charting album in 50 years with RökFlöte
Jethro Tull could be in contention for their highest charting album for 50 years with their upcoming album RökFlöte, which was released on Friday and is currently at No. 8 in the midweek chart
According to the Official Charts Company, who compile the UK's charts, as well as the Prog Chart that features in Prog Magazine, the latest Tull release looks like it could be headed into the UK Top 10!
The band's previous release, 2022's The Zealot Gene, reached No. 9, giving the band their highest charting album since the band's Living In The Past compilation album, which reached No. 3 in the UK charts in 1972, the same position as the Thick As A Brick studio album the same year.
"Long-standing English rock scions Jethro Tull are also pursuing a Top 10 debut this week," the Official Charts Company say in their weekly chart dispatch. "RökFlöte (8) could become their second Top 10 album in just over a year, following 2022’s The Zealot Gene which debuted at Number 9 to become their highest-charting record in 50 years."

My last post about the song, I promise: The title may have fooled me but I swear its not cuz i thought 'finally, Ian wrote a song about me' This song somehow, note by note, layer by layer forges a path to beating heart of Tull for me and, furthermore, has remined me how to listen to the other new songs and let them build and develop. Since size does matter, It will take its place among similar length jewels like Acres Wild and Velvet Green and European Legacy. Ha! Well, I finally managed to take the car out for a decent run and play the CD in its full stereo glory with the volume right up and I love it even more. My only reservation is that the tracks are just too damned short! I just feel I'm getting into the groove and it's over. I know there are restrictions on getting it onto vinyl, but, dammit, I just want MORE!!!

Interested to see whether the band play any of the new album at the Northern Kin Festival in Durham tonight. We have a very wet & grey day here today but fortunately the bands play under large circus type marquees. I will try and make a note of the set list and post it asap.

Current Rokflote summary from my corner: There are no bad songs. Each and every one rewarding from close listens.

Good to hear they've added the album tracks to the Jethro Tull radio.net channel - interesting how the individual tracks from this and The Zealot Gene slot so easily into place against the classics

I really like this album, I much prefer it to The Zealot Gene, although Three Loves Three is awesome........it's a pity Ian didn't include a couple of his lovely acoustic songs on it.

My main complaint with the album right now: I STILL haven’t got the deluxe edition delivered! God damn the useless swedish postal system…

Since listening several times to Rokflote, I was inspired to go back and listen again to The Zealot Gene, Homo Erraticus and TAAB2. They're excellent too!

By Francisco Cayetano IAN ANDERSON's Braydon Hall manor in Wiltshire: recording studioOf course in the handsome 18th-century manor house in Wiltshire with 400 acres of land where Anderson lives with his wife, Shona, there's a recording studio (probably in one of the cottages). And Ian Anderson stores his musical instruments in a warehouse. "My days in the home office that I share with my wife are blissful. If you have to go to work and do clerical things, this is a nice place to be doing them. I’m only a short stroll to the kitchen and the espresso machine, and a slightly longer stroll to my recording studio and warehouse where my musical instruments are stored." (Ian Anderson)

Finally got the physical copy out of the swedish postal catastrophe! Really good extra material. I especially enjoyed the walk through Ian’s garden, and the discussion on ancient depictions of male genitalia. Will need to find a reasonable way to listen to the Bruce mix in headphones, as my only blueray option is my rickety old PlayStation4… sounds really gold at first listen though!

I shuffled Rokflote, Zealot, Homo and Rupi the other day and found them compatible and logical together....TAAB 2 more in it's own space or maybe along with TAAB for me.

Jethro Tull - Wolf Unchained (2023) Ian Anderson appears to be on rather a creative kick lately, with a second new studio album from Jethro Tull, RökFlöte, in just over a year, after a gap of over 20 years since their late-’90s albums (aside from the curious yuletide outing in 2003). 2022’s The Zealot Gene focused on the human condition, with the thread of the Holy Bible running through it (alongside the odd pop at Donald Trump) and was an unexpectedly strong return for Jethro Tull. On this latest release, Ian Anderson focuses on his personalised, idiosyncratic reflections on his Viking roots and Norse mythology in RökFlöte.

Jethro Tull's Ian Anderson talks Viking/Norse mythology & RökFlöte Incredibly, we managed to get an interview with the legendary Tull frontman (Steven's favourite band in case you didn't hear him mention it on every previous episode...)!
Ian talked with us about the brand new, rocking Jethro Tull album RökFlöte, Norse mythology, Vladimir Putin appearing at a Tull meet-and-greet, the time journalists demanded details of his upcoming gender reassignment surgery, Broadsword 40th Anniversary boxset details, Under Wraps getting REAL drums, how he's a "bit of a fan" of Motörhead despite the umlauts, bands like Mötley Crüe using backing tapes on stage instead of playing completely live, how performing helps his asthma (not COPD!), how work is going on the NEXT album and its planned release date, and how he's a cranky old guy like Morrissey these days!
We were told we'd get, at most, 45 minutes with Ian but we ended up chatting for over 80 minutes and it was just brilliant. We think you'll enjoy this episode. Give it a listen, and check out RökFlöte - you can hear our review of that here:

• Jethro Tull's Ian... This interview is an absolute blast in my opinion, one of the best currrent day talks with IA I’ve heard! Fair warning though, their god-damn intro music is about 30% too loud. You turn the sound up because the talking is a bit low, and then you get stabbed in the ear with sudden noise. Why do people who work in audio do that??? It’s the same all over the youtubes as well. Listen to the stuff you make before you release it, for fecks’s sake…! Still really good though.

As is so often the case, close listenings after first impressions reveal songs with shared DNA to the rich catalogue, if not actual cousins:
Wolf Unchained- Hunt By Numbers and Turnpike Inn Perfect One-Lost in Crowds and a teeny bit of Change of Horses Trickster- Whistler, Sad Sisters Navigator-Jump Start, Engineer Hammer- Barren Beth

I finally got headphone access to blueray and listened to Bruce Soord’s mix. Okay, I went to bat for Ian’s style before, and I still like his mix just fine - it’s vintage Tull after all. But yeah, you could make a very strong case that the alternate mix should have been the main one. Very good stuff that revealed to me several details I hadn’t noticed before. Let Bruce help out with the mix of the next album from the outset, please!

Excellent find SAMATCN. Ian Anderson seems much more relaxed and interested in the interviewers and their questions than is sometimes the case. He also lets the interview carry on much longer than normal. One comment I found surprising - he has recently become a fan of Morrissey??

One comment I found surprising - he has recently become a fan of Morrissey?? It was Jtull007’s find though, credit where credit is due! Yes, he’s mentioned Morrissey in a couple of interviews recently. It’s funny, I fell out of like w Morrissey a few years back, probably for the same reason Ian looked him up: he just started to become a bit TOO grumpy and contrarian! Now that the overton window has shifted on many culturally sensitive things, I can certainly see that we need contratian people and unpopular viewpoints. But I still prefer Ian’s level of contrarianness to the Moz’!

Reason For Waiting/Cornucopia definitely on the cousin's list. Sometimes the cousin vibe is so obvious ( fat man, tall thin girl, water carrier), (budapest/white innocence) that it reveals pre-meditation.
