Guitar is my tool. Can dabble in a few other things. Used to be not bad on the Flute but haven't picked it up in years.
I use Digidesign Pro Tools in the studio but having said that I recently acquired a reel to reel tape machine and its got me thinking the old ways not only sound better, they are more creative. There is too many options these days when writing/producing music.

Ive played the bass for a couple of years now, its been my main instrument always i suppose, though i recently took up the flute (guess why ) and I do play other instruments like the drums and guitars too. Sadly, ive never been able to bring my passion for progressive and folk music (including Tull, Yes, King Crimson etc.) into the music that I write. Therefore ive played in various Fusion-Jazz bands and am currently in a PopRock-band (ouch) with my brother. Were playing some of the "underground" venues in Copenhagen so if youre ever in CpH, come see us www.kirkadian.com

I play guitar as part of a prog covers band currently under construction! We are yet to make our public debut as we are searching for a singer. Once we are over that hurdle I shall shamelessly big us up when we start gigging.

Im guessing some Tull? Some Yes and King Crimson per chance?

We haven't decided which Yes song to try and tackle yet (they are all pretty scary!) but so far Roundabout is winning so it might be that.

Post the result on youtube please haha, you might have to wait a while for a decent version of Roundabout...it's a bit hard!!! We are probably best descibed as a hobby band, prior to starting this I've only done easy three and four chord covers before so doing prog stuff is a very steep learning curve for me! Also we haven't found a singer yet so we are a bit half formed.

Some of those follk/Heathen metal bands are pretty cool. Check out Hedningarna from Sweden and Corvus Corax from Germany. Always a person who has made his own fun, I enjoy playing music too. I play historical woodwind instruments such as the recorder and reproductions of early bagpipes. I am something of a Luddite and they fit in perfectly with my archaic lifestyle. Cheers, Jason

Cheers, Jason It's interesting to hear the celtic bands such as Runrig et al using the Scottish pipes alongside electric instruments. And of course Tull used the sound of the pipes on "The Third Hoorah" for example. And not forgetting Ms Nonrabbit and her part of the country, Moving Hearts' use of Uilleann Pipes alongside fretless bass, synthesisers and soprano saxophone is magnificent on tunes such as The Lark and The Storm. They mix well with modern instruments.

Thats when it all took off when it became less mainstream 1940's/50's/60's "shortbread tin" folk music and more the revival of the original instruments... with a twist. Tull were in the forefront of folk/rock of that I have no doubt

Hi nonrabbit & Maddog Oh yes, and bands like JSD, Battlefield Band, Ossian and The Tannahill Weavers were really innovative in putting the bagpipes into a band setting - they really set the tone imho. Another imajor figure was Gordon Duncan: www.gordonduncan.co.uk/Of their work, I like the Runrig album Recovery Maddog. Not bagpipe driven, but I think Silly Wizard was my fav. band from that time. Concerning the Luddite traits nonrabbit, I like to surround myself with things that are antique and handmade. My wife and enjoy reading books and doing things by hand as much as the world we live in permits. Thanks friends, Jason

I'v been (trying to) make music for over 30 years. I've always (tried to) play something. I'd be interested to know who here is also a music-maker...what instruments do you play? What type of gear do you use? What kind of music do you play? I play drums, (after resting for 40 years) I'm still trying to get to grips with this Jethro Tull stuff, everyone I've spoken to who plays music tells me the same thing " Jethro Tull tracks are difficult to play" the timing seems to be a bit of a problem, speaking of which, here's me on drums with a few of my mates having a go at "Living in the past" The timing of course is perfect, apart from being too fast ;D

Seriously Bunkerfan, thanks for posting. Always good to see what people do in their spare time.

I'm a muso! I'm a bassist with a Frank Zappa tribute band called Petulant Frenzy here in Sydney, Australia. See the website www.petulantfrenzy.com Great fun! I'm also the silly person responsible for most of the Tull midis that made their way onto the internet back in the mid-late 90's (TAAB, Passion Play, a whole heap of others). Lot of work for no reward (except for finding out a little about what made Tull tick!)

Guitar, flute, variety of traditional woodwinds, keyboards, compose some music in midi, ukulele, recorder, banjo (a fascinating instrument I think needs much more exploration for tone - I think people got the impression that Earl Scruggs was the end of the trail), small percussion instruments (since I'm not a drummer), harmonica, jaw harp, recording sounds in nature.
Would like to try: bass guitar, calliope, bandoleon, irish bagpipes, kodo drums, djembe, bass Chinese bamboo flute, sitar and there are a few instruments from around the Turkey/Iran/Egypt/India area I find fascinating but I don't know their names.
