Hi
Can I rewind a few posts to reflect on 1982 Supergroups in Concert ROIO....
Thanks to the kindness of the forum I have had a chance to replace my lost CD copy .... and they do sound great for a ROIO....
I notice though that these kindly provided CD's have the same vinyl noise issues as my old copies had. Most noticeable during the quiet parts of the keyboard solo and during the Pibroch instrumental.
Made me wonder if the LP used by the radio station was the culprit .... poor copy to transmit from? Also made me wonder if there is a clean vinyl source somewhere... or if anybody has a CD version without the vinyl artefacts?

My German is good enough to know that 'Wasserschloss' means 'Water Castle'...but seriously, doesn't that sound like a fancy toilet ? I can just hear the rich people excusing themselves to visit the wasserschloss.

Also made me wonder if there is a clean vinyl source somewhere... or if anybody has a CD version without the vinyl artefacts? r Most have the blemishes of age as you describe - yes it's badly manufactured and low quality vinyl as you suggest together with lo fi cassette recorders which captured a majority of the audience recordings prior to mini discs. Many cassette recorders used to boost the input volume during quieter passages of music which played havoc when the recording was played back resulting in the quieter passages becoming louder with some dreadful background noise/hiss. This background noise becomes even more apparent every time a tape is copied resulting in some hideous sound blemishes with high generation copies. The classic examples of the above would be the high(ish) audio qualities of the original TMOQ and Kornyphone label bootlegs which rapidly dropped in quality every time a recording was copied by another bootlegger resulting in the original vinyl records being better, in many cases, than the subsequent CDRs.

There is a black and white, one camera angle, not very long, video of part this gig floating around.

There is a black and white, one camera angle, not very long, video of part this gig floating around. Although relatively short set lists, there is a vitality and musical energy about the early stadium concerts the band performed, both visually and in audio. These American boots from that time are amongst the ones I listen to the most. Today's scans are are from Las Vegas in 1999 - one of the first concerts I downloaded from the internet in 2008.

Typical late century set list...4 songs from the two recent albums ( SLOB and Dot Com), One song later than Aqualung ( Steel Monkey) unless you count Pibroch instrumental. Plenty of Stand Up/ Aqualung. I remember it as a pretty good show as both 'Jeffery' and '1000 Moms' were surprises.

Ah yes....2009....the most recent song that night was 1987's FOTF. So Beach Boys, so improved the past few years.

The Kelseyville gig was outdoors with poor sound...part of a concert series requiring season ticket purchase to get good seats...in a god forsaken area that never gets good acts and the local economy is based on methamphetamine sales and motorcycle repair shops...so not the best audience and hard core Tull fans from Bay Area and beyond huddled in crap seats...sadly, that venue, fairly screams out 'has been act doing beach boys tour'....but it was Tull and I'm glad I was there.

I was there...Laguna Hills 88...my third dip in the 20 year tour...Wylie must have been on something cuz when he saw me and my three friends lurking early he told the security guard...'let them in , they're VIPs'.....we saw a great soundcheck ( vocal free jump start ). and saved ourselves front and center seats.....the place was HUGE ( 16-18 thousand) and quite full though not sold out. That was the last time Wylie mistook me and mine for anything but pests.

I love that picture...all the politburo and KGB big shots of the era hovering around Ian...Judas/Putin on the far right. If there was EVER a rock star that deserves consideration in the land of Dostoyevsky, Tolstoy and Pushkin...it's our man.
