Warchild for me. Always found the production on Too Old . . . to be "muddy" and recent remasters I don't reckon have improved it much. Some great songs on it but I've heard the title track so many times in concert that if it's announced I tend to wince Warchild has so many great moments - Queen & Country, Only Solitaire, 3rd Hoorah etc and of course the title track. IMO one of the many defining moments in the history of the band and certainly an album I've recommended to non Tullies and never had a negative response.

WarChild gets the nod - It certainly was a defining moment for the band, and my life as a Tull fan, too. Witnessed Warchild/Minstrel tours in Niagara Falls NY & Toronto. Not a big fan of "Too Old" in the beginning, I've been enjoying it more with every passing year.
23/2/75 Convention Center Niagara Falls, NY. USA The show was delayed because, when making his 'big' entrance, Martin tripped on a cable, damaging the stage rig. Lights and sound were restored within 15-20 mins.
7/10/75 Maple Leaf Gardens Toronto, Canada Star Point Thick As A Brick (excerpt), Minstrel In The Gallery, Wond'ring Aloud/Again, To Cry You A Song, A New Day Yesterday (w. flute solo, incl. Bourée & Living In The Past), Skating Away..., Ladies (w. drum solo), 'WarChild Suite', Cross-Eyed Mary, The Hare... (intro), Aqualung, Guitar Solo, Wind Up, Back-Door Angels, Locomotive Breath/Hard-Headed English General/Back-Door Angels (reprise)

This one is easy for me, too....TOTRRTYTD has grown on me over the years...but War Child towers over it...I mean, war child is a big chunk of Tull at their peak...the gig i saw...2-6-75, in El Paso, that ian tacked on in between the record run in LA lest they lose a few pennies waiting for the extra LA dates, was the best gig of my life-period and War Child still hits me between the eyes as boiling genius......given a time machine and a ticket to return to a gig I've seen...I'd chose 7-6-73, in denver..A Passion Play the day it was released in England.....when i saw it, i was unfamiliar with APP except the teeny bit they played on the radio...I'd love to see that show now....with countless thousands of APP hearing since!

Has to be Warchild for me. I have never really liked TOTRNR and like mad dog the thought of thee title track played in concert makes me wince. Warchild has a special affection as it was the first Tull tour I saw in a magical night in Cardiff . I missed the London APP shows

Warchild here, even though it took me the better part of my 20 years of Tulling to get into it much. Cupofwonder.com has a lot to do with helping me to find something about the Tull stuff I skipped over for so long. Maybe one day I will have another breakthrough on Too Old but I've come the first 20 years, so who knows... There are a couple that I liked more than others, but taken as a whole, the thing tends to put me to sleep. The production is pretty dull sounding, and until maybe 6 years ago when I discovered Cupofwonder.com I often had no idea what the lyrics were if they didn't come in the CD booklets, so much of the older stuff, not originating in the CD era, did not have that on my copies. Maybe the reissues have that, but such was not my situation. So, lagging behind in my realization that the lyrics are as important as the drum parts of the songs (my drumming commencing really because of my discovery of Tull in 1989), I have slowly come to fuller realization of what was being sung, and of course, discussed, in those older songs. I have a bit more sympathy for Too Old now but still the thing doesn't ignite me much. Not even relative to Warchild, and far from A or Under Wraps, the stuff a "true Tull fan" isn't supposed to like! I've come to find some joy in Ian's rants on the hypocrisy of society, so Warchild and PP have slowly found their way into more rotation here over the last years. Musically it is far more adventurous than the more 50s inspired themes that Too Old seems to evoke for me. Warchild was a lot nicer a canvas for Palmer to work upon, thinks me.

OK let’s play devil’s advocate!
Maybe TOTRnR would be the one Tull album that could benefit from being re-recorded or at the very least taken back to its component parts and re-mixed by a sympathetic producer/arranger. Even the re-mastered version didn’t do it justice imo. As it was originally muted to be a musical vehicle for Adam Faith, would it have been better to have been recorded by him and left at that?

maddogfagin, really? Too Old: I like the sound of my first UK CD, it's one of my favourites of Tull from the first round of CD releases. This CD actually helped me appreciate the album for the last 20 years. The remaster is certainly brighter.

Um, they look as if they are just "too old to rock and roll." Now, too young to die... we can't say that with any certainty!

I just have this thought that certainly with TOTRnR a complete back to basics approach might have been better than just re-mastering the album.
To me it's an album that, although very good, seems to have elements which I feel could have been done better. After all they messed about with re-mastering indivual songs previously whereas this album IMO could have done with a complete overhaul.

I agree with Mix, the only addition I'd like to TOTRNR would be some more info from Ian on the musical and where the "bonus" or other songs would have fitted in, in terms of running order.
