Thank you to Glen. Brave and honest answers, we would expect no less from him.
I missed out on the questions myself, would have loved to ask him does he remember the gig in Dublin in 1968 when Ian's flute was lifted and his coat torn. A 17- year old Johnny Fean of Horslips was in the audience that night and told me about it. Where was I? Listening to the Dubliners and the Chieftains for god's sake !!
Did'nt know what i was missing.

Well Glen a huge thanks for that I thoroughly enjoyed reading those answers! You mentioned playing in Norn Ireland in the late 60's something I always wondered about and something I really didn't know about the band. Your absolutely right about music being the great leveller I know of people from the north who appreciate the tradition Irish music of the south and likewise those from the south who listen to the great piping from the north - you just have to be careful when it comes to the lyrics ;D Although I now live in N Ireland I am a Glaswegian so I am thrilled that you mentioned the old Greens Playhouse as one of your favourite gigs. I was there! Found some of this from the Greens/Apollo site ... ".. A review of the Jethro Tull and Procol Harem gig in 1970 clearly made a big impression on one fan who writes There was no need for the Playhouse bouncers to "close the door" or "bar the gate," for I wouldn't have left the premises for the gifts of all three kings" i34.images obliterated by tinypic/11wg584.jpg[/IMG] Tir na Nog were playing near me recently and Leo told me that you gave him one of your headbands from that concert. Think he's still got it i33.images obliterated by tinypic/3091npk.jpg[/IMG] Thanks again for the Q&A and maybe some of us will catch up at a Tull convention in the near future.

Nonrabbit.. The squad (the Horslips platoon of fans) will be crosing the border early on the 3rd of next month for the Oddsey Arena gig in Belfast. Staying in Belfast overnight.
Carrying with us the scalps of U2 fans and the gnawed bones of Daniel O'Donnell followers. And a couple of Tull fans (when ARE that band coming back to Belfast?) One of the Corrs is the opening act. A Horslip told me recently they intended to mate with the Corrs and the resulting band would be called the Hoors.

Forgive me for just this follow- on... while I remember it..
We (the squad) were at the Late Late Show (live tv) last Friday to support the band. We very nearly got turfed out. One woman was being given a beauty face pack as a gift when one of our gang roared out, having taken a look at her GIVE HER TWO. The Singing Priests came on, one of our gang roared OH NO NOT THE F****** SINGING PRIESTS, a woman in front turned around and said 'they are my two brothers, would you like a puck in the gob'. We sang 'MY LITTLE HORSIE' (a la Father Ted and Dougal) back to them when their turn came to sing.
The actress from LITTLE HOUSE ON THE PRAIRIE was on and we disgraced ourselves again by singing the signature tune back to her as she talked.
One of the more lively Late Late Shows of recent times, don't suppose we will get back in there again.

Well Cool (man) Raven with those last 2 posts I'm definately meeting up with your lot if not this season then certainly in the next year or so. I won't make Belfast as I've just come back from Glasgow this week. Would have loved to have been in the audience with you.
Ps my daughter's ex boyfriend is a cousin of Daniel (sweet boy) O'Donnell and they went to visit the hallowed ground of Daniel's in Donegal a couple of years ago. My daughter said that the look on her boyfriends face was something she will never forget when Daniel came up and gave her boyfriend a hug and said " Chris, my son, I used to babysit you when you were a child!!" ;D ;D ;D

What a pity Nonrabbit you cannot make it. You would have been made very welcome.
A full dress rehearsal in Drogheda last night, for invited fans, more than thirty songs, talk about rolling back the years !
Just like Tull, their music is still fresh and vigourous. Also like Tull the muse comes from the heart, is more often than not based on the folk songs and ways of their native land, and is inventive and thoughtful. Unlike Tull they had only a decade of intense touring anfd recording, then marriage and other interests intervened. Also unlike Tull there was no overwhelming central figure, all five share the credits equally. Indeed, when they attempted solo or conbinations of ex members, it simply did not work. As I may have said here before, Jim Lockhart of Horslips was encouraged by IA's use of the flute as a lead instruments, and it forms a vital part of their sound, and Barry Devlin(Horslip, film director, screenwriter) always gives IA as one of his favourite composers.

Just received this from Glenn:
Some stories for 'coolraven' about the Dublin gig - one of the more memorable gigs of my career! 1) It's a gig I remember well - Tull and Ten Years After but no one seems to remember the 2 young Irish opening bands - one was Phil Lynott and Thin Lizzy and the other was Skid Row with Gary Moore! Who would ever have thought what stars those 2 would become! Gary Moore was so thrilled to be playing with Alvin Lee, his hero at the time and completely disinterested in us! He was probably only 16 or 17 at the time! 2) We were staying in the newly opened Holiday Inn in Dublin and, because we were carrying shoulder bags with our stage clothes, they wouldn't let us leave the hotel for the gig because they thought we were doing a runner on the bill! Once that was sorted out, we took a cab to the National Stadium (Dublin's premiere boxing stadium). Half way there, the taxi ran out of petrol and, as though this was the normal way of things, the driver took a jerry can out of the boot and wandered off down the road with a "Right lads, I'll be back in a few minutes"! 10 minutes later he reappeared and put about a gallon of petrol into his tank and took off with us to the gig as if that was just the normal way to run a cab business! 3) The Stadium, being a boxing arena, had seats on all 4 sides and we played in the middle so there was no way out without actually going through the audience. Ian did get mobbed and had part of his coat ripped off. We never thought it was deliberate but the part of the coat that went was the part with a big pocket which had Ian's only flute and his harmonicas. About a month later we received a package at Chrysalis with his flute and all the stuff from the pocket! That's what makes us think it wasn't deliberate. Anyway, it was time for him to get a better flute! In spite of all, a brilliant gig and excellent memories! Glenn

Ah that is fantastic. Full marks to Glenn for going to the trouble of replying. Good stories too, now we know the full details of the flute incident, does'nt appear as bad as before. Tull, some of Horslips, Gary Moore, Thin Lizzy.. all in the same place, and me in a flat just down the road, where did I go wrong, Mammy ?

Anything that can possibly go wrong, always does without fail.
