The details of the St Brides release but with a twist THE JETHRO TULL CHRISTMAS ALBUM
2009 issue UK 33-track 2-CD album set
A fantastic double album which is bound to get you in the festive spirit! A combination of two superb Christmas albums including the original 'Jethro Tull Christmas Album' released in 2003. And the more recent recording 'Jethro Tull - Live At St Brides'. 'The Jethro Tull Christmas Album' features 16 uplifting Christmas songs with a twist only Jethro Tull could achieve!
Last Christmas, Jethro Tull performed and recorded a live concert at St Bride's Church in London. The profits from all tickets sold for the service, went to The Connection at St Martins - a charitable facility for the care of London's homeless community. Ian Anderson's view is that "we all have a duty of care and responsibility to help the less fortunate."
"Christmas - an aspirin for the soul or cold-turkey celebration of the birth and life of Christ? It has to be a measured bit of both doesn't it? And, if you can cope with it, a Happy New Year."

I think I'm sort of tempted...maybe.
There was a time though I would have snapped this up and anything at all to do with Tull.
Maybe I'm going off them.
Horslips are releasing more or less the same old same old, around the same too.
But the difference is that they have invited us to a secret gig just before the O2 gig in Dublin, a sort of run through for the fans. What a nice idea.
Of course , now it is no longer a secret !!

Can't help but think that the St Bride's release would have been better as a stand-alone CD with new artwork, song notes etc rather than tagged along with a reissue. True, it's still only £12.99 (in the UK) for two albums but the release of this album as a single CD would, IMO, serve Tull and IA much better and gain more publicity.
A great "package" for anyone who hasn't got the Christmas Album for sure, but another kick in the goolies from the record company to long serving, and suffering, Tull fans.

i don't think i'll be buying this christmas album, the original is good in parts but some of it is like that background lift music IA bangs on about before he plays bouree. A good winter album which i've just bought is Sting's if on a winters night. I long abandoned Sting when he started whining on about the rainforests, but i really like this new effort. Soulful, lilting, melodious good tunes.

I went off Sting too he got a lot of stick from the meedya and probably deserved most of it Listened to this album constantly when it came out and still love it i33.images obliterated by tinypic/2ytvg4g.jpg[/IMG]

I am so loving this blokes photographs and it would be fitting if The Christmas Album had had a photo booklet inside aka LITP with some of these included. LITP must have cost an absolute fortune to print and produce!i35.images obliterated by tinypic/14wf6z6.jpg[/IMG] i35.images obliterated by tinypic/4j4b37.jpg[/IMG]

I would think the majority buying this will already have the Christmas Album? But I'm still looking forward to hearing the St Brides concert. And I note the double CD is on £8.99 at HMV hmv.com/hmvweb/displayProductDetails.do?ctx=280;-1;-1;-1;-1&sku=296512

I guess that since it's priced the same as a single album, it doesn't really matter. Though the cover may deter some from buying what they think they already had? I know it has a St Brides sticker on but wouldn't a completely new cover have been better?
I would have marketed it as a new album with the old Christmas Album as a 'free bonus disc'.

Nice to know IA and Tull are still in the forefront when it comes to charitable causes. Probably this is why it is being marketed with the Christmas album?
All artist and composer royalties received from the sale of "Jethro Tull Live - Christmas At St Bride's" will go to London Charities For The Homeless.

I'll be getting it. I actually like the Xmas album - it's far better than the dreadful "December" and "Winter" (Steeleye Span).
I'll only be getting it for the live concert, though, as I have the album already.
C'Mon Ian, let's have a new album!

Hmm, yes I agree maddog, it would have been better as a stand alone CD rather than part of another repackage. It does kind of take the gloss off it a little bit. Some of the instrumental passages were used to accompany the readings so I wonder if they will be included or mixed out?
But nevertheless I'm still very much looking forward to hearing it, I never thought I'd be on a Jethro Tull album doing backing vocals!!!

Has anybody bought or listened to this Album?I have got it and i like it very much.It is a VERY particular live album. It shows an intimate part of Tull.Good choice for me to include the former Christmas Album.Listening to the first CA helps a lot to enter the mood Ian would like to communicate through the second one.

Got mine this morning but it'll probably take a few listens to fully appreciate the album. It's no real surprise that the Tull part of the set list chose itself with the usual suspects Jack In The Green, Christmas Song, Another Christmas Song etc with the added bonus of Fires At Midnight and A Winter Snowscape et al. Readings by the Rev. George Pitcher, Ian Anderson, Gavin Esler amongst others and the St Brides choir make up the rest of the album. What is strange is that there is no applause after the songs except for the final one - a brief Thick As A Brick. What I found meaningful were the sleeve notes by George Pitcher and I quote his final paragraph: "Ian doesn't believe in God? I don't buy that for one moment. More to the point, I don't think God believes it either. He knows we're all at the same gig - we're just dancing to different tunes. And amen to that."Profits from the release will be going to London charities for the homeless. My overall impression is that it is a worthy addition to the Tull catalogue as who else would have had the initiative to perform in such a concert with all the proceeds going to charity. I still stand by my initial thoughts elsewhere that it would have been better as a stand alone release but if you haven't got the original Christmas album then buy this 2 cd package. Track listing for the St Brides Concert 1. Weathercock 2. Introduction by the Rev. George Pitcher. Choir: What Cheer 3. A Christmas Song 4. Living In These Hard Times 5. Choir: Silent Night 6. Reading: Ian Anderson, Marmion 7. Jack In The Green 8. Another Christmas Song 9. Reading: Gavin Esler, Gods Grandeur 10. Choir: Oh, Come All Ye Faithful 11. Reading: Mark Billingham, The Ballad Of The Breadman 12. A Winter Snowscape 13. Reading: Andrew Lincoln, Christmas 14. Fires At Midnight 15. We Five Kings 16. Choir: Gaudete 17. God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen / Thick As A Brick

Not to everybody's taste but as for the applause I reckon I've been listening to too many Tull boots recently ;D

While we're on the subject, anyone know anything about this seemingly alternative cover to the original album? I noticed that it was used at the official site when the album was first announced there.

looking quickly the nearest I can find is that it was done by a graphic artist for the record label ?? Wonder if it was based on an actual church - somewhere in Wiltshire?? This pic taken by a local photographer reminds me of it i46.images obliterated by tinypic/qpi6h5.jpg[/IMG]
