Recent interview with Andy on his myspace. www.myspace.com/andrewgiddingsmusicAlthough maybe he is taking the high road to some extent, it is as I suspected in the brief moment given its discussion, a case of road weariness and an eye to film scoring as much as being under the allegedly dictatorial and heartless rule of Ian Anderson. It has long bothered me, though it shouldn't, that so many of Tull's seemingly most ardent fans are frequently given to presuming the worst of the character of Ian Anderson. (In Andy and Jon' case the rampant anti Ian sentiment I read re cost cutting measures or Ian just being an a hole in general) Where as I much prefer the opinion of his one time and maybe still farm manager, Ian MacKinnon in about 82, telling me he could not imagine working for a finer gentleman. I know I have quoted that on at least one other occasion on this board, and here will probably not be the last time!

We'd all prefer to think Ian was a great guy who has the sun shining out his a** but the reality is often not so swweet.
I think overall Ian is a pretty fair guy but he does have a pretty mean side as many of us do. Ian is a pretty slick businessman and sometimes decisions must be made that hurt and can seem cold. Such is life.
I was pretty disappointed with Andrew Giddings departure. I accept Ian has the right to change his musicians for whatever reason but he often goes about it in a pretty shallow way often by letter, services no longer required as was the case with Maartin allcock who was completely unaware of any issues. Andrew giddings is the latest of a long line of 30+ musicians who have been proceed and digested by Ian over the years. As Tull longest serving keyboard player I think he deserved at least an explanation.
Good on Andrew though. I hope his post Tull career is even more sucessful for him.

It was on the now dead official Tull forum where I read comments which claimed to be from Gidding's. I can't see what he would have to gain to make stuff up? And wasn't he invited to guest on the UK tour last year which he declined because of his treatment? There was no official announcement of his departure either. I notice he currently has a nice friendly mention at the Tull website. Fishy me thinks

He replaced Ian Anderson's face with Captain Mainwearing from Dad's Army on his Myspace page a few years back, shortly after Tull toured without him... It was funny.
It's Ian's ship, and one that he's kept going for years when most bands from that era have flopped, given up, split up, reformed, produced dreadful albums and disgraced themselves. Or ended up playing the back rooms of pubs in Coventry (Which is where I last saw Wishbone Ash.)

I happen to be in your camp with this particular quote, but even if I wasn't, I would still like the way you write.

The McNeice Auditorium is actually part of a County Technical School. An embarrassing venue for a band like Tull - well maybe not now, but it was at the time (2001). I've never seen an audience that was so dead. It was a dreadful night.
