Thanks, Jeffie. What do you think? I can't say I'm immediately captured by the songs, but then it doesn't usually work that way with me anyhow. This will probably be the first CD I've actually bought in...I don't want to say!
I had heard about the woman from My Brightest Diamond working with them - you might remember that when I saw them she was their opening act and sang "Yankee Bayonet" with them. However, I HADN'T heard that Jim James was going to be guesting, and that's very exciting since My Morning Jacket is the biggest band to ever come out of Louisville (even if I'm not their biggest fan).

Forgot this Wiki link that I meant to include in the original post, which explains the background, direction and concept - Yes! It's a CONCEPT ALBUM! en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Decemberists#2009:_The_Hazards_of_LoveI've heard The Rake's Song before, but can't think how or when, which is bugging me a bit. However, that familiarity has already elevated it to 'very interesting' status. It's hard to imagine how the other one will end up - in solo form it sounds very much in keeping with its inspiration. I thought those references would interest you, Becks! ;D Cheers, Jeffie.

The concept is quite interesting, and didn't we talk about Annie Briggs at some point? But isn't that cool? Jim James?? (Actually I do like their newest album better than any of the previous ones). I think you actually get it on the 23rd and I have to wait till the 24th.

Newest mention of Decemberists: Colin Meloy named as one of the "10 musicians you should twitter" or whose Twitter you should read, however it works.
5. Colin Meloy (The Decemberists) - colinmeloy Best recent tweet: Wondering if moving directly from Mastodon to Paul Simon is akin to putting one hand in cold water, one hand in hot and I'll pee myself. Runner-up: Goodbye, Blender mag. Thanks for our first-ever national review, in which you called me "donkey-voiced."
Where's our buddy Jioffe?!

Last Sunday nite, I told a cooler than cool, indie rock girl (17) daughter of my friends that I dug her Colin Meloy glasses....she was sooooo impressed!

No...i wasn't hitting on a 17 year old daughter of friends....I was merely coveting the remaining boxes of her 'Polly Pocket' paraphenelia for my daughter...we scored!
