Hello, I'm a long time Jethro Tull fan who missed seeing them in concert in about 1969 or 1970. We had tickets to see them at the Avalon Ballroom Fillmore West but Ian Anderson was sick and couldn't perform, instead Janis Joplin filled in. I've been unable to find the date when that happened. Any info would be much appreciated.

Hi hugemoth and welcome to the Jethro Tull Forum I've found these two cancelled Tull concerts from Fillmore West 1969/1970. www.ministry-of-information.co.uk/setlist/13/8/69 Fillmore West San Francisco, Ca. USA Also playing: Chuck Berry, Loading Zone. Tull cancelled this appearance. One source reported that this was because Martin had broken his foot and was therefore being too heavily medicated to play. However, another says the cancellation was due to Ian suffering a bad reaction to medication. 3/4/70 Fillmore West San Francisco, Ca. USA Tull were scheduled to start the US tour here, for three nights (posters were printed) but with the arrival of John Evan, this show was cancelled, the tour was reorganised to provide further rehearsal time and two 'warm-up' dates (four shows) were added.

Thanks for the information. Still not sure which one it was so I'll need to do some more research. Might be able to determine which one by looking at Joplin concert records.
Love Jethro Tull!

Also possible that Ian got dosed the night before as was notorious in those days

I heard he was dosed, hated it, finished the show and did not play again in city limits of SF till 1987....luckily he played Oakland, Daly City and countless other venues near SF but not SF
