Hello from the western North Sea Coast of Germany,
I hesitated several years to register in this fine forum because I'm not an english native speaker. But now I dare. Hopefully You can read me. My Name is Jo, 53 years old, born, raised up in Wilhelmshaven, northern Germany, and living in the near of.
The first time I got in contact with the music of Jethro Tull was in 1982. My sister bought the BATB Album and I heard it, when she didn't, the whole day long. Because of that it's my favorite Tull album since then. And that will never change, I guess. I became a really Die Hard Fan since the 1987 album COTN. It was the first album I bought myself and since then I also bought all albums of the back catalog and the new releases. I'm also a fan of other bands of the rock, prog and hard'n heavy genre. But I recognize very early that Tull is something sepcial in the rock scene and also for me. It's very complicated for me to explain in english in terms of my feelings I have with this very special kind of rock music and the protagonists. But for me it is an absolute different world, when I listen to Tull instead of my other favorites. IA and his mates create a very special and mystical musical athmosphere and aura. Till today. And not only with the classic albums. For me there is only one band I feel similar with but abolutley not in that intensity. And that is Magnum.
My ranking of the Tull albums changed many times in the last over 30 years. There were times I couldn't get warm with Stand Up, Warchild, A Passion Play, TAAB and TOTRRTYTD. With the Wilson Remixes and the anniversary box(book) sets (I own all of them) I discovered more and more these fantastic recordings. Especially A Passion Play and TAAB climbed up in my Top Five.
But there is also a negative side of Tull in my time to be a fan. And that is not IA's voice problem or that Martin Barre left the band. It is the much to long phase of Never-Ending-Best-Of-Touring (in all it's forms) since 2000. Wasted time, most of, imho, because I was always keen on new material.
And now there is the new album. At last. Long, long awaited. I like it every day a little bit more. But that's a different topic.
So thanks for the admission and let's have some good and interesting conversations.
