Most recent estimates, including his share in Straithard, his propertis, various companies PLUS all the music, between 40 and 45 million.

He's invested a lot and hasn't done the rock star bit with flashy cars, swimming pools, yachts in the Med, clubbing, etc. Must be his Scottish heritage. I can see ms nonrabbit having something to say on the Scottish bit. Oh well, I've got broad shopulders

Yea, Maddog....plus his investments.
That's why it kinda irks me (and others) who truly love his musicianship that he still seems to make all his Tull decisions based on money! He says ihf he keeps touring with the old Tull songs and only releases :Best Of's....." and old "Live..." stuff he makes money. He says if he puts out a new album it wont make money. Well, what about us fans?! who wuold love new material for ATRS sake not money's sake?
Alas....it's been a DECADE! since he's really done anything new (except for "Rupis..." in 2003).
I guess 45 million aint enough for IA.

It may be something to do with my Grandmother who was Scottish and connected with the clan of Gunn. Mrs maddog is Scottish too so I expect the friendly insults from all sides ;D

I've always admired the Scots for being proud and not feeling persecuted by some of the cliches attached. Sure, Scots are known to be thrifty and, for a long time, the Safeway Supermarket in house, generic cheapo brand was called 'Scotch Buy'...you know, the non-branded peas and corn and toilet paper and everything else that was a few pennies less without a fancy label....I have always imagined the uproar and wailing if safeway had named their discount line: Jew-Buy! ( I am jewish)

^^ I once had a boss in England who thought it was funny to throw a penny towards the door when the buzzer went to get me to go to reception. ::)I could have made a fortune in compo if compo had been invented then for hurt feelings ! You know the MYTH ;)of the mean Scot comes from 2 things - the old saying..'getting away scot free' - the 'scot' in question wasn't a Scottish person but the Scandinavian word for a tax which was introduced to the UK in the 13th century or thereabouts. The other reason for the completely nonsensical image of a thrifty Scot came from an old music hall tradition/comedy at the turn of the last century.A caricature ! Now I've started.......... The Scots are the best charity givers - officially in the UK and the next time you go to the pub with a Scotsperson count the number of rounds he/she gets in compared to the rest of our cousins in the UK AND Ian Anderson has a total of £3,650,587.52p ;D

Did I not read a few years ago that IA appeared in the TOP 200 richest men in UK? I cannot recall if a specific value was mentioned. Anyway, I personally have no problem with his wealth – at least he and the various other members of JT have brought me great joy over the years – more so that the any premiere league football player, Jonathan Ross, TV Celebrity cook, etc, etc. Also, IA has contributed to a few charities over the years.
At least IA still continues to work – albeit no new album is out there. So, why does IA get up in the morning if he has such wealth? Perhaps he enjoys playing to smaller venues and still being on the road bringing joy to us Tullians after all these years –which is much appreciated.
I think some one suggested that they are not that concerned about there being no new JT music available. I must admit, I do (to a certain extent) support that view. I am happy to see IA/JT, once a year, in a small venue in Salisbury, UK rather than have a new cd. To be honest, with the amount of music produced by JT over the years, a new cd would only be played infrequently as I enjoy the vast quantity of excellent music from the past “phases” of JT – early 70’s/celtic folk/heavy horses/green period and into the 80’s with that change in style.
Jack in the Green dvd. Mrs 3Chordtrick gave this for Christmas. I know it has been covered elsewhere, but just to say, it is great. Nice, clear visuals and audio. I, for one, have seen none of it before – other than the 1970 Beat Club session. Has anybody noticed the change in voice between the 82 session and the 86 sessions? IA voice was on top form in 82 – the songs sounding “as per the original”.
