I just run across this blog on the net: Casting the Members of Pink Floyd for a Biopic
With the success of the film “Bohemian Rhapsody” about Queen, “Rocketman” about Elton John, and the Netflix hit “The Dirt” about Mötley Crüe, it’s time to think about a biopic of one of the greatest bands of all time, Pink Floyd. ...
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
It got me thinking about Jethro Tull, and possible biopic about a history of the band. I believe, a film' about Jethro Tull would be quite interesting thing. Just for shake of fun, I wonder which actor would be best to play Ian? Or, who could play Martin for example? Any ideas?

Good Thread Orion. Off the top of my head for the part of Ian from say, early 20's to early 40's, covering his time in Skye etc I nominate the Scottish actor Richard Rankine. Richard brings humour, warmth and stubbornness to his role in Outlander. I can see him with long hair and a torn coat. He'd have to tone down his accent a bit as Ian lost most of his east coast brogue when he moved to England. here he is promoting his photography - a man of many talents as indeed is Ian

I agree, indeed Richard Rankine would be very good choice to play Ian.
Maybe, Ben Whishaw could play as younger Ian too. He's a very talented actor.

Yes, Ben Wishaw looks the part. I don't really know much about the casting process, but I'd say for a biopic there would have to be some resemblance to the person they're playing although I don't think Rami Malek really looked much like Freddie Mercury - he did after make-up. It's a good question . I'm going to think about it. Any actors that I think about are all too old to play the younger band now. I see Richard E Grant on stage as Ian; Tom Baker as John Evan ...hang on here's a young 'un

Maybe The Cowardly Lion from Wizard of Oz could play Martin Barre ? The Straw man as John Evans and The Tin man as Jefferey Hammond-Hammond? It's a start.
