I know this album is generally knocked or ignored. But from the time I originally bought it on vinyl in 1983, I've never NOT played quite often and continue to do so on CD. I remember all my friends at the time hating it, saying it sucks , there's "Hardly any flute" and like that. But I've alwayed luved it, basically for 2 reasons. 1) I've always dig "electronica" the '80's sound, etc
an, most importanly, Ian is a GREAT f********n songwriter and the simplisti, yet BEAUTIFUL instumental touches he does here on electric gitar, bass, drum programme are gorgoeous.

Very interesting tommie - i think yours is the first positive review i've ever read. I feel oddly guilty admitting this - but i have never listened to Walk Into Light, in spite of the fact that i've owned it for years, and love Tull more than any band/musical entity. I guess it's due to reading so many negative reviews/comments, and my desire to avoid being disappointed by a musician for whom i have so much respect. I frequently disagree thoroughly with negative Tull reviews, so i dunno. One of these days though

I think WITL is amazing...like Tommy says, ian flexing yet another set of musical muscles. I remeber when drum machines were new, all my hot shot musician friends...I mean music conservatory genius guitar and piano types...dropped their normal toys to gather dust and played with drum machines for about two years...i guess, with no disrespect to drummers, the option of a machine that kept perfect time and could be made to do stuff humans can't do, provided endless fun for the musician studs...eventually the thrill wore off and they went back to their original axes and organic drummers...but that first wave of drum machine music, including WITL, has some cool stuff on it!

WIL.........Some great songs but I don't think it's aged that well sound wise. It feels a bit dated to me now but the quality of the material more than makes up for that IMO.

Welcome to the board from me. Hell of a week at work but I'm going to have a great time reading all the recent posts at the weekend. I've always liked Walk Into Light as an album and there are some cracking songs on it. For sure, not ebverybody's cup of tea but IA wouldn't be the great music writer he is without experimentation, etc.
