I am in the process of transferring all the Tull 8-Track Tapes as 24-BIT, 96kHz files. I have already done all the vinyl and cassette releases as it's just a fun way of "re-experiencing" the music. My question is how many releases were issued on 8-Track. I have these : Attachments:

I'm sure Aqualung was available as an 8 track. I saw and heard it in countless cars in the 70's.

I'm sure Aqualung was available as an 8 track. I saw and heard it in countless cars in the 70's. Ditto, very sure I saw Aqualung 8-tracks in cars, but almost exclusively heard Tull on vinyl in homes. I never owned any 8-tracks, I went directly to vinyl at first, and cassettes later on rare occasion. Vinyl had the punch where cassettes would dull the sound after a few dozen plays. I can put up with some needle scratch noises, but when commercial cassettes lost the clear edge on the sound, that felt like betrayal, dammit! I remember that my one and only first purchase of a Tull album on cassette was Crest Of A Knave, and walking out of the mall starting to play it, I thought, "holy crap, this is going well!" and thought the album was magnificent, fresh, punchy and articulate. Tull as always.

Hello, Recent mention of 8-track cartridges and of splicing breaks with scotch tape brought back fond memories and I decided to take stock of my collection to verify just what I have. These are from the time and used to ride around with me in an Oak box until I side swiped 2 parked cars while changing albums. As you can see I preserved many of the sleeves too. I had no problem with 8-tracks! Sure, the signal to noise ratio was a little lower than cassettes with Dolby but it didn't matter in the $500 cars we had. In fact they sounded great - huh Jim! I was a logger and spent several weeks pay on a special order top of the line 4 speaker JVC Quad system. Some cartridges just wouldn't play right even with a book of matches wedged under the right side to increase pressure on the capstan or motor and so I got to transferring my Tull innards into 'donor' cartridges of the type that fit better and played straight. That's what you see in the two on the left side and sure enough it looks like Songs From The Wood needs to pull into the pits for a little splicing work. The TAAB cartridge is the demonstration tape from the JVC and it was extremely cool when the voice went from speaker to speaker around inside the car. Hope you like them.
