Listen to: Sweet Jane (Lou Reed) then Pretty in Pink (P. Furs)....then listen to Magic Bus(the Who) folllowed by 'Hurry Down Doomsday (giant Insect Invasion)' by Elvis Costello on Mighty Like a Rose. then listen to 'Not Fade Away' and follow that with 30% of all rock and roll! Ian has pointed out the theft of We Used to Know for Hotel California....I've always thought Budapest had a teeeny, weeny bit too much 'private Investigations' (dire straits) in it...of course, money for nothing has a lot of jumping jack flash!
I'm gonna learn how to import You Tube urls to my posts...i promise. But then I'd have to do the you tube homework to support my claims!

Irish Celtic Rock band HORSLIPS will now admit to me that the opening to their song from 'The Book of Invasions'(1977) called 'The Power and The Glory' is almost a straight rip (not on purpose) from the opening of 'Locomotive Breath'.
They will of course also acknowledge a powerful Tull influence, Jim Lockhart playing flute and tin whistle to marvellous effect.
Anyone who has not tried them really should. The marriage of rock and folk has rarely been more successful, (apart from JT of course) and Johnny Fean's hard rock guitar is pure genius.
Best albums ...

Two Horslips web sites www.horslips.ie/www.horslips.com/Have top agree with you about Horslips coolraven - a great band. They issued an excellent 2cd compilation (38 tracks in total!) a few years back called "Horslips Collection" which is a good starter for anyone getting into the band for the first time. Always thought "Sure The Boys Was Green" was heavily Tull influenced.

As an aside to this thred.......Don Henley was on K-Rock about 2 months ago being interviewed and taking call from the listeners, too. (I think Joe Walsh was with him, too). Anyway, I almost fell off my chair when a guy called , spoke to Henley, and brought up Ian's comment that the Eagles ripped off the opening of "Hotel Cal." from Tull's "Reasons For....". Henley laughed and said, basically, that Ian despised by musicians who know him and that he feels sorry for a guy who can't write or sing any more and has to say stuff like that to get attention. He also said Tull has been irrelevant fot over 20 years. Pretty biting. Ouch!

Don Henley is not fit to sharpen Ian's pencils, as a song writer, nor carry his guitar pick, as a musician...talk about lame, washed-up, nostalgia seeking, irrelevant, dumb-ass has beens...look in the dictionary next to 'bland crap'...voila...Henley's picture. BTW Tommie...it's We Used to Know that bore the boring 'hotel california'......maybe one day i'll post my unfiltered response to what Henley said about ian and Tull!

So much so that I would I have thought that I could find some mention of it somewhere, like on a Eagles or Don Henley message board. But I can't seem to find anything on it anywhere. How about you Tommie, can you provide a link to confirm this story?

The only thing I have to say about Tommie's post (if it's true) is that it's pretty accurate. It is totally understandable that Ian has alienated himself from some of his contemporaries since Ian has not shied away from taking shots at whomever he sees fit. Ian's voice is well....well documented. I tend to think that most reviewers are rather polite when reviewing a Tull show out of respect to Ian. But let's face it, his voice can be absolutely hideous at times. As for him not writing anything of note for 20 years - that too is pretty accurate. Their last album of any acclaim was Crest, which of course is now 21 years old. So although you might not like Don (or his music), these words do in fact ring true.

Okay, I relent, Henley can sharpen ONE pencil for ian, if he washes his hands first and keeps his mouth shut and bows when he brings it to ian....but just one.

Here's an interesting one. Coldplay are to be sued by guitar whizz Joe Satriani over their recent hit Viva La Vida. Satch claims that the song used "substantial original portions" of his 2004 instrumental If I Could Fly. I must admit he may well have a point. Played back to back the melodies are identical in places. Coldplay uk.youtube.com/watch?v=dvgZkm1xWPEJoe Satriani uk.youtube.com/watch?v=CMcjXo8ZuqE

I saw a little snippet of news earlier today about it, just a little talk with the songwriters who said he asked for permission to use the tune a few years ago and they were happy to give it. I think it sounds kind of cool. I'm kind of in awe by how it sounds like him while it doesn't quit sounding like them. I mean, if the other never existed, it would be very consistent with his something he'd write.
