Today's all about Belgian bands for me. First of all there's Quantum Fantay, some guys who do... well, I don't know what to call them. Some kind of instrumental electronic rock, but actually mixing many different things. I've never been an electronic music fan, but these guys are original, you should definitely give them a listen! Plus one of the musicians plays the flute, it's like listening to Ian on "special" mushrooms or something. www.youtube.com/watch?v=3AfhmsPIBGgwww.youtube.com/watch?v=AiE4WuEp0FIThen, back to more traditional stuff, there's Mandolinman, a mandolin quartet (gosh how I love this instrument). In their first CD, they apparently play traditional stuff. The sound's super clean and it should be a nice addition to folk lovers. www.youtube.com/watch?v=pFJuq6JyS7Ywww.youtube.com/watch?v=jxGnev3IFFEI hope you guys enjoy these two bands if you decide to give them a try.

Today I'd like to recommend a band from my hometown, Rare Folk. They started doing folk, but they also included elements from rock, flamenco and electronic music, amongst others. It's not easy to explain, they're extremely original, particularly their last two albums. Here's a song I didn't pay much attention to until a couple of weeks ago, however these days I can't get enough of it. www.youtube.com/watch?v=MvXHVRN9UTQ

Guys, I'd suggest we use this thread a bit more often, I'm sure we all could discover lots of great stuff thanks to it
... although not from me today, I'm being rather unoriginal... it's Iron Maiden day!

The only Hendrix acolyte who ever out-Hendrixes Hendrix now and then...give this amazing song by Randy California and Spirit a try: And then of course there's Robin Trower. Bridge Of Sighs is one hell of a great album.

Basque songwriter with a beautiful voice. He sings in Basque but the musicians who support him (usually the songs have more instruments) are usually American, I think. www.youtube.com/watch?v=7GX1zmNlYlI

Damn what a voice!! Love the bit at the start and the frightfully posh BBC announcer explaining it all to us.

You got that right Patti Thanks for posting this excellent video. I was just beginning to find out what Cream did before they broke up. Never heard this before. The BBC is a place where there are thousands of cool songs like this one. Nice intro by the announcer.

The BBC is a place where there are thousands of cool songs like this one. Nice intro by the announcer. Your welcome Jim glad you enjoyed it - his voice gives me goosebumps, it's a pity they didn't keep the whole recording. I was watching a Sky Arts TV programme about the making of their seminal album - Disraeli Gears and the big boss of Rolling Stone said that it was his favourite of all Cream tracks. You might like to watch the series here - great interviews with the bands and others associated with them including the boss of Atlantic records - on a sidenote Ginger's accent and way of talking cracks me up It's in 5 parts...

A lovely, lovely man that I had the great pleasure of meeting.
Great song and lyrics - quite Tullish too.
When winter's shadowy fingers First pursue you down the street And your boots no longer lie About the cold around your feet Do you spare a thought for summer whose passage is complete? Whose memories lie in ruins And whose ruins lie in heat? When winter... Comes howling in
When the wind is singing strangely Blowing music through your head And your rain splattered windows Make you decide to stay in bed Do you spare a thought for the homeless tramp who wishes he was dead? Or do you pull the bed-clothes higher Dream of summertime instead? When winter... Comes howling in
The creeping cold has fingers That caress without permission And mystic crystal snowdrops Only aggravate the condition Do you spare one thought for the gypsy with no secure position? Who's turned and spurned by village and town At the magistrate's decision? When winter... Comes howling in
When the turkey's in the oven And the Christmas presents are bought And Santa's in his module He's an American astronaut Do you spare one thought for Jesus, who had nothing but his thoughts? Who got busted just for talking And befriending the wrong sorts? When winter... Comes howling in

The Musical Box - The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway Full Show HD
Selection of the best youtube videos representing the entire Lamb show played by tribute band The Musical Box, thus having the exact idea -seeing in HD the stage, lights and slideshow- of what Genesis brought on tour in '74-'75.

I saw this tour in Birmingham and Manchester. Lucy Wilkins on violin is awesomely good and she can play too. The solo she does on 'Out of The Blue' is something else. Never saw Roxy with Eddie Jobson - too young . OneWhiteDuckling

I've heard many comments regarding the quality of Tull's "quickies"... which are indeed great... but when it comes to quickies, nobody beats Simon & Garfunkel

Another rare folk band (no, not Rare Folk, those guys are from my hometown and they mix folk with rock, electronic, jazz, etc... these guys are a bit more traditional, and from the north of Spain, not south!). Brilliant stuff, check them out!
