Jethro Tull's Thick as a Brick and A Passion Play (excerpt)
An excerpt from Chapter 5 of Tim Smolko's book Jethro Tull's Thick as a Brick and A Passion Play. Featuring insights from Ian Anderson and in-depth musical analysis, Smolko discusses the band's influence on popular culture and why many consider Thick as a Brick and A Passion Play to be two of the greatest concept albums in rock history. This is the best Tull book ever...I mean, Minstrel and the interview books are great...but really...how much didn't we know ?( With all due respect and thanks to New Day, mind). This book is written by a man who really, really loves Tull and he has the chops to write about the music...way above my head....but it is pure pleasure to read. YOU MUST READ THIS BOOK.

This book is written by a man who really, really loves Tull and he has the chops to write about the music...way above my head....but it is pure pleasure to read. YOU MUST READ THIS BOOK. The short review on the Amazon UK site pretty much echoes your thoughts Bernie"Tim Smolko's book makes a significant contribution to the literature in popular music studies and musicology. Furthermore, it is an important addition to the available literature on Jethro Tull, which - despite their commercial success and longevity - has not been rewarded as of yet with sustained analytical study." - Kevin Holm-Hudson, author of Genesis and The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway

Anyone else reading Tim Smolko's book at the moment? Some great reading material but when I get to the places where he starts getting technical I'm lost, not being a reader of music. But it's a wonderful read other than that and, with Brian Rabey's book, a great way to spend a boring and wet weekend
