First...Martin in straight out lying...he HAS heard TAAB II....trust me on this...Martin Barre has listened to TAAB II okay? It's painful and grotesque to read of him asserting otherwise...He's already played a few of the songs and...and...well, anyway...Martin Barre has listened to TAAB 2...period.
I really feel for the guy...I respect and admire Martin..I think he's one of the best guitarists in all rock and roll and an exemplary hard-working, dedicated musician that cares about the music, his fans and his bandmates...really a jewel of a man in a million ways...it gets me in the gut to read of him referring to Florian like a jilted wife talks of the trophy bride....'oh...he has Flo now etc etc'. The tacking back and forth between forward looking and oblivious to the hurt Ian caused him with current choices is artless...I think current status is a series of unintended consequences...practical decisions and factors outside the realm of ian and martin's working and personal relationship....who knew that Florian who be so amazing and that current tour would be so wildly successful? It may yet just be a stage...I think there is a greater than 50% chance we see Ian and Martin touring as Tull...not here and there or one-offs or 'reunions...but sustained tours but it's hard to not be aware of Martin's agony and disorientation with brave new world of touring Tull songs sans Ian. A dose of harsh, businesslike reality in the middle of the otherwise storybook perfect revival of...dare i say it....Tull...these days.
Deep inside I also believe that if Martin still matched Ian's willingness to compose, rehearse, fine-tune and tour TAAB for two years...he'd be there...there's some reasons that Martin is not along...probably casual expressions of distaste when Ian proposed a return to mid-seventies style schedule and commitment that Martin may now regret.
