Sadly died today. A mainstay of British comedy and well respected by his peers. In 1967 he wrote, directed and starred in a short semi silent film called "The Plank". The film also starred Tommy Cooper, Jimmy Edwards, Roy Castle, Graham Stark, Hattie Jacques and a host of other comedy actors. The full 40+ minute film is at www.youtube.com/watch?v=H2RoudtrVv8Published on 1 Jun 2012 by MrRobertHampstead

Eric Sykes was a genius of comedy. His best era for me was his series with Hattie Jacques where his down to earth sharp wit came into play on live tv. In the 1950's He developed hearing problems then subsequently lost most of his hearing, but learned to lip-read and watch other performers say their lines in order to get his cues. RIP
