A few of my favourite TV programmes when I was a nipper. Anyone else remember these.

Loved the Bumblies as a kid. I had a toy of, I think, Bumbly no.3 which the family couldn't prize me away from even when, at the tender age of 7. I had my tonsils taken out. I took it everywhere with me and would probably fetch a smallish fortune on ebay if I still had it.
Not my tonsils I hasten to add.

Cheers for the full account, Bunkerfan! No need for apology - as it happens, I mentioned it to my artist pal, Duncan Storr - turned out he actually found the prog on DVD and bought it! ...Subsequently has sent it here. Imagine my shock to find it was in colour!!! Back in the day, at the time it was broadcast, we only had a black and white TV and I'd assumed all these years that it was made in b/w - but no! That's been quite a shock to my nostalgia-banks!

Muffin the Mule Torchy, Battery Boy.... ah, life was innocent then - I can guess how those would be parodied today!
I always liked the (foreign-made - which country made it?) Robinson Crusoe TV series... haunting theme music too... dah da da duum dah daaaah; dah rum dad dah, d'dah, dah dum dah daah...
I was, coincidentally, round at a pal's for a meal last saturday and he produced his childhood (working) puppet of said mule - and a badge that proclaimed he was a member of the 'Muffin Club'. He'd joined up as a wee lad! Doesn't wear the badge in public these days! Must ask him for pix of those items to post on here!

We had a piano in the house and we used to climb on a chair and dangle the puppet on the piano lid in the same fashion as the tv series. The puppet, in good condition, would be worth a fortune today. Annette Mills and Muffin And tv in black and white rather emphasised Britain in the late fifties. I blame Mcmillan myself.

pix as promised - but m' pal's puppet was metal, not wood! It's probably the grey cells playing up again. Pictorial evidence proves it was metal so I'll go and stand in the corner for 10 minutes. Mind you, it was a long time ago - am I forgiven

Still it's been interesting to see old Muffin again. Now how about Dinkey toys. Still got 4 or five in the loft.

Hmmmm, I think the 2 scuba divers are Hans and Lottie Hass. Now then, the name of the second pair, (a sort of educated guess), is Armand and Michaela Dennis. The other chap's name escapes me for now. Don't worry about being skint, it was nice to be reminded about childrens shows from a time when they weren't run by a chattering bunch of ignorant thickos - (that's the miserable old git in me saying that).

The other chap's name escapes me, I'll get the thinking cap on. You're correct on the two pairs. Hope you don't lose sleep thinking of the last one.

Just in case anyone is losing sleep over who the chap is, it's George Cansdale. Now do you remember?
