Thanks for posting Alanc and a warm welcome to the Jethro Tull Forum. I assume that you interviewed the great man himself and there are some interesting answers to your questions, especally concerning his plans for recording new music. Just love the question "Have you had any word on how Eric is progressing with the flute?" Good to have you onboard Alan MD

Yes, I asked the questions, but, as you can see, Ian provided all of the wonderful answers. Thanks for the welcome. I hope all of your forum members enjoy Ian's thoughts and comments as much as I did.

Check the official Tull website for the "instant interview" questions... I'm assuming you'll want to avoid those. Wikipedia is your friend. If you are doing research, check out specific albums, band members, projects. Ian, at one point had a fish farm I think. I was gonna ask about that but his answers were already running long.

Everything i think of sounds like a challenge...( you used to be so anti-nostalgia...now every ten minutes theres another 40 year this, 25 year that, 30 year this anniversary, re-issue, re-mix, re-release etc...what gives? did you change your mind about 'nostalgia' or does the market and record companies force you to acknowledge your albums anniversaries in predictable manner?) maybe i am an asshole !

It all depends on your purpose. Mine is to get an interesting read for my website but also to serve as a publicity channel for the artists, be they local or internationally famous. If you want to be provocative then go for it! You will probably get more readers, but you might have a harder time scoring interviews. In the interview business, being a bit of a dick is not necessarily a negative. In the US, people like Howard Stern are sometimes sought out because of their raw honesty (and huge audience!)
Ian is such a nice guy though, you're maybe gonna feel bad if you try and get all up in his face. Good luck and have fun!

thanks for thoughtful feedback....I'll err far, far on the side of politeness and respect...I'm not a journalist, publicist nor writer...just a devoted fan as witnessed by my participation on this website. My fantasy is to ask him not the same old, same old and get a few good answers without fawning too much.....poignant example in your post cuz i don't dig Howard Stern at all...It's fine for him to assess his audience as mostly morons or provocative types by nature ( sorry NYC) but his style of shock and vulgarity and 100% focus on his own self-publicizing schtick gives me a headache. Thanks again for helping me think through my 15 warholian minutes with ian on the line. I will not get verklempt, I will not get verklempt, I will not get verklempt....I'd drink razor blades before i was, on purpose, a dick to Ian Anderson.

Personally I'd avoid mention of salmon but chillies, exotic cats, vintage Martin guitars, "world" music and the like are probably good starters. Shame really it's only 15 minutes.

During 'Rubbing Elbows' my erstwhile Tull buddy Mark swore if he was able to get onstage and ask ian a question or three, which was a a possibility in some iterations of the 'Rubbing Elbows' format, he would ask Ian; " would it piss you off more if i dated your wife, or your daughter'...except he didn't say 'dated'... I think I'll rule that question out right now.

I hadn't thought about the time limit, but I think if I did the math right, Ian averages close to 4 minutes an answer. So you might only need about four questions. (You're welcome!)
