It's been often said that Tull have over the years covered just about every base in terms of musical genres so, just for fun, which Tull track would you pick that best sums up their forays into......
Acoustic Blues Christmas Classical Classic Rock 80's Electronica Folk Folk Rock Hard Rock / Metal Instrumental Jazz Pop Progressive Rock World / Ethnic + Any I've missed!

It's not that easy since Tull music usually has these different elements sprinkled in here and there, rather than an outright and total approach. But anyway...
Acoustic - Small Cigar Blues - Sleeping with the Dog Christmas - God Rest Ye.... Classical - Pibroch (middle bit) Classic Rock - Aqualung 80's Electronica - Tundra Folk - Broadford Bazaar Folk Rock - Songs From the Wood Hard Rock / Metal - A New Day Yesterday Instrumental - Bouree Jazz - Bouree Pop - Bungle in the Jungle Progressive Rock - Hunting Girl World / Ethnic - Fat Man Easy Listening - August Rain

I thing "lounge jazz" would be more fitting for Bouree ! Seriously, to me it's just Tull.

Or his country music song Truck Stop Runner! Jeff

Think you've discovered a new genre - disco country. Now there's a thought. Dolly Parton singing Truck Stop Runner to a disco beat along the lines of Donna Summer. Seriously, the UK digital statio Planet Rock (who are under threat of closure) play a lot of Tull in their programmes. If you don't have access to a DAB radio or live outside of the UK they can be found at www.planetrock.co.uk. Worth a listen when online.

Are they still going? I haven't listened to Planet rock for ages. In fact not since I didn't win tickets to that secret Tull gig they did last year Sore loser, me? Last I heard of them they were going to close down. I take it they didn't!

Yep they're still on the air and doing well. They achieved a gold award a couple of weeks ago at the Sony radio awards. Brian May of Queen is behind a consortium which hopes to buy the station all being well. I didn't win a ticket for the Stroud gig either but they broadcast an edited version of the gig back in December (1 hour show with adverts etc). Nothing too exciting but worth the price of a minidisc to record it. Did hear a rumour, and it's only a rumour, that at least one person turned up on the day of the stroud gig without a ticket but managed to get in.

Is IA still a contributor to the station? I know he used to turn up regularly (did he actually have his own show?)

Yes IA had a 6 part show called Under The Influence in which he picked his favourite music under certain genres (that word again) and the whole series was repeated again towards the end of last year. Other people whole guested shows included Gary Moore and Fish.

Acoustic-Wondring Aloud live in 87 off 88 box set Blues-Beggars Farm, live in Chicago 92 off 93 box set Christmas-Solstice Bells 77 Classical-Elegy 79 80's Electronica-Black Sunday Folk-borderline folk I know but Dun Ringill 79 Folk Rock-Fire at Midnight Hard Rock/Metal-fits less than snugly under this banner but Dark Ages, however if the live Farm on the Freeway 87 off the 88 box set, or the loud parts of Pibroch are admissable evidence I will go with them. Pibroch it is. Instrumental-don't want to repeat myself w Elegy again so I will go with Passion Jig,live 92 off 93 box set, honorable mention to both Eurology and Boris Dancing Jazz-again ever so loosely termed as such, but God Rest Ye off the Xmas album Pop-I don't know that they have ever made one, does Dot Com count? Progressive Rock=TAAB World/Ethnic-The Times of India-(Bombay Valentine) Easy Listening-Again don't know that they have made one and I have already used Elegy, I will say a three way tie between From A Dead Beat to and Old Greaser 76, Reasons for Waiting 69, and while I would not have included it in this category I see Col did and I do so love the song, (Light your guiding beacon to bring this fisher in easy listening?) Maybe words to live by, The Dog Ear Years

With a nice knitted jumper and comfy shoes.

The birdsong channel is being broadcast on a channel vacated by a defunct station, possibly "thejazz", and serves no purpose at all. Planet Rock has until the end of this month to find a new owner and if not will go off air - shame really. Oh for the days of the late Alan Freeman on radio 1 with his rock show all those years ago. Still got a couple of off air tapes of it somewhere especially when he interviewed IA and DP and where they played live. I must really dig that out and listen to it again.

I would call the interlude from Hare Who Lost His Spectacles to A Passion Play side two an early example of Trance/electronica.

I never got to do this, so I'm doing it now. And I know I'm going to blur the lines a bit, but I'll do my best not to (some of these genres I may be way off on..). * Acoustic: Salamander Blues: A New Day Yesterday or Someday The Sun Won’t Shine For You Christmas: Ring Out, Solstice Bells Classical: Bouree Classic Rock: Dark Ages (Don’t know where this goes, but I do love the guitar and drum on this….great for air guitar solos and headbanging. In a ladylike way, of course…). 80's Electronica: Apogee or Astronomy Folk: Moths Folk Rock: Heavy Horses Hard Rock / Metal: Jump Start Instrumental: Elegy Jazz: One For John Gee Pop: A Stitch In Time Progressive Rock: Passion Play World / Ethnic: Rare & Precious Chain…it has a snake charmer quality to it….. Country: Live version of Cheerio (that’s about all the Country I can take…). Cover: Man of the World Disco: I think they wisely left this genre alone. Either that, or my ears are in denial that they ever did it.... Easy Listening: A Gift Of Roses Glam: Pied Piper Romantic Song: Fire At Midnight Soundtrack: Coronach Weirdest Song They Do That Gets Stuck In My Head and I Can’t Get It Out!: Gold Tipped Boots, Black Jacket and Tie * All subject to change at a moment's notice....
