For a band that has an album called "Repeat" what do you expect? Anderson repeats a lot, on stage, off stage. I'm used to it.
But then again, how much is down to the fault of IA. While I agree 100% that any new songs must be issued soon, either as mp3 downloads or a fully fledged album, I think the band and IA himself are not being well served by the record companies.
I found this on the AvaxHome web site - yet another official compilation from "RandM" records:
1. Living in the Past (I. Anderson) 3:26
2. Aqualung (I. Anderson) 7:42
3. Boris Dancing (I. Anderson)3:04
4. Locomotive Breath (I. Anderson) 5:10
5. In the Grip of Stonger Stuff (I. Anderson) 2:46
6. Circular Breathing (I. Anderson) 3:41
7. The Habanero Reel (I. Anderson) 3:56
8. Cross-Eyed Mary (I. Anderson) 4:25
9. Thick As a Brick (I. Anderson) 4:21
10. Bouree (I. Anderson) 3:10
11. Mother Goose (I. Anderson) 5:29
12. My God (I. Anderson) 8:12
13. Songs from the Wood (I. Anderson) 4:51
14. Wond'ring Aloud (I. Anderson) 1:49
15. Hymn 43 (I. Anderson) 4:11
16. The Stormont Shuffle (I. Anderson) 3:09
17. Old Black Cat (I. Anderson) 3:37
18. The Secret Language of Birds, Pt.II (I. Anderson) 3:02
19. Nothing @ All (I. Anderson) 0:55
20. In the Olive Garden (I. Anderson) 2:48
While in itself not a bad compilation, and probably one for newer fans to buy and enjoy, I would argue that it's one compilation too far. And as EMI have just lost the Queen catalogue to Universal, how long will it be until yet another "Best of Tull" hits the market place.
What IA needs right now is someone with the business sense of Chris Wright or Terry Ellis to sit down with him and sort out what the band's recording future is. If Jethro Tull's music and importantly IA's compositions are spread around too many companies (EMI, Papillion, RandM, Fuel are the ones that immediately spring to mind) then we'll have even more compilations in the future.
If Queen can move to another record company and take their back catalogue with them, can Jethro Tull/Ian Anderson do the same?
