Lovely O16 NY signed by 'Jethro Tull'. Ian Anderson of Jethro Tull favoured these guitars in the '70s so there is a strong reason for the signing. This is such a comfortable playing little guitar and in superb condition for the age. £2,295.00 Brexit LINK HELLO Ian Anderson GOOD LUCK JETHRO TULL Looks like this is more affordable to Americans in the exchange rate. £1 equals $1.32

I see there are two different sellers on ebay posting this one, with very different prices As with "suspicious" autographs of rock stars/celebrities for sale on ebay (other auction sites exist), this is another part of the memorabilia world which is open to abuse and forgery. They used to be given away by the companies as I expect most here realise and have availed themselves of some in pre-internet days, but it's now so easy to forge with a pc and printer. Other so-called exclusive pieces on the internet for auction include countfeit BBC transcription discs, 45 rpm singles described as rare re-presses for collectors, the afformentioned publicity items (these include cheap photocopies of tour itineries which are difficult to spot even to the trained eye} and other items which crop up from time to time. So it's certainly "buyer beware" and never buy a cheap Elvis Presley autograph.

For those new to the Forum or who have recently taken up the collecting "bug", the above is a counterfeit of the original "Toe" single. The winning bidder didn't pay over the odds for this, as a genuine copy can go for £500 or more. Also it's not a UK pressing. These counterfeits were manufactured in the seventies in the USA, probably in New York, and can be distinguished by the large American centre hole, the absence of "slip ridges" on the vinyl around the label and the fact that the name is spelt correctly as Tull and not Toe. There is also a red/pink vinyl pressing of this counterfeit single which also turns up on ebay from time to time. Genuine demo copy of the Toe single Genuine stock copy of the Toe single

The record is a MONO This Was from Island. It has promotional posters and a letter from Jethro Tull's talent agency to Columbia records. As we all know, JT ended up signing with Chrysalis. Just thought that might be of interest to some of you. I really should have posted this earlier, but the auction ends tonight at 10 PM EST. Here is the eBay link.

"I wonder. A band called Jethro Tull, album called This Was, and it's popular music. Anyone heard them yet? Pop music will never go anywhere. Now that we have record players in homes, people can buy classical favorites and, I mean, who's not satisfied with the soundtrack to Gone With The Wind?"...........Ignatius Gruber, Tweedledee Weekly News And Views, 1968.

Noisy British beat combos with unkempt and long hair - disgusting. A long spell in the Army would do them a world of good. Sir Bufton Tufton, Tunbridge Wells

How much do you know about the Tull Gold discs that come up now and again, one recently sold on ebay, what's your opinion on those things......... Cheers Graham and keep up the good work As far as I'm aware, 99.9% of gold/silver discs on ebay are manufactured by companies or individuals for fans to have as a keepsakes but are not genuine company discs. Genuine company discs only really crop up on ebay in conjunction with an individual artist if it is for charitable purposes etc. Genuine discs are usually awarded to the individual artist, record company, agent et al and will have a certification piece somewhere within the frame mentioning the person/artist it's been awarded to. eil.com do have some genuine one for sale and it's worth comparing the difference. Having said that, many of the ones on ebay (normally about £80) do look rather good and would ge rather fine hung up on a wall in a Tull cave Genuine disc with certification Fan edition disc
