There's a good entry on wikipedia about the band: The group was founded by David Clark Allen, a Californian trained in flamenco guitar. Originally a seven-member band in Los Angeles, USA, the band in the early seventies relocated to London, England, where the personnel soon stabilized as a quintet.
In London, they became friendly with several rock stars of the time, including David Bowie. Marc Bolan, and Bryan Ferry. Obtaining the services of producer Tony Visconti, released three albums: Fandangos in Space 1973, Dancing on a Cold Wind 1974. and The Gypsies (album) 1975. By early 1975 the band was enjoying its greatest success, playing as an opening act at concerts by Santana, Blue Öyster Cult, and Electric Light Orchestra, and touring for three months as opener for Jethro Tull. A series of unfortunate events then occurred while the group was recording 'The Gypsies' at Longview Farm. Paul Fenton seriously damaged his knee, stopping his career as a drummer for many years. Carmen and Tony Visconti ended their musical relationship, and the bands manager left. Carmen disbanded shortly after finishing their last album in 1975.en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carmen_(rock_band)There is also a John Glascock thread here on the Forum at jethrotull.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=past&action=display&thread=475

Found this on ebay - a flyer from February 1975 with Carmen as the support act. John Glascock joined Tull in December 1975 after Carmen disbanded.

Lovely pic and a good read - like the opening paragraph ; "If you're obsessive about Jethro Tull, you will most likely remember Carmen as the band that brought John Glascock to Jethro Tull. If you're slightly more batty, you might know that Angela Allen, who sang on TOTRNR (the only woman besides the venerable Maddy Prior to have the honor of singing on an album with JT), came from Carmen, too..."

I'm sure Carmen could put together a great dance team to open for the TAAB tour. Attachments:

Here a pick John's wearing a JT T-shirt as he was still recording with Carmen on their final 1975 album - The Gypsis, or after Carmen broke up their last album was done and shortly before Ian Anderson called him to Tull?
