Wasn't the first (or only) album made by The John Evan Band called Life's A Long Song? I know Barriemore is on it because he lists it in his Paiste Profiles discography. Still in print? Worth getting?

Worth getting? Life's a Long Song was originally issued in the UK as a maxi single in 1971 and was the first recording that Barrie Barlow played on when he joined Tull (he was in the John Evan Band previously). The individual tracks were also issued on the "Living In The Past" LP in 1972 and subsequently on the reissue of the album on CD. I've no doubt that Tootull will let you know which is the best conversion to CD - probably the MFSL issue from 1997 ;D

I think chasing down and releasing this bit of Tull geology was A New Day's' finest moment. Really proves that these guys paid some serious dues playing ragged covers of this kind of material to nasty, provincial crowds...complete with transit van, late night coffee stops in $h1tty truck stops etc etc.....Ian may have lost touch with the common man at some point...but he wasn't born with a silver spoon in his yaw nor was his success the overnite variety.

Totally agree Bernie, though with tips of the hat as well to then unthinkable notion of interviews with Jeffrey, John Evan, Glen Cornick, Mick Abrahams, I think Ian's teenage girlfriend who I know I have spoken to online, very interesting woman, Barrie Barlow, the zine literally blew away this, at the time, starving for information about Tull Raymond. Pretty much the only place you would get something like up to date news prior to that were the annual tour guides which I used to always buy, always funny too, like the bit in the Catfish one about Ian always preferring to have a tape recorder with him on long flights in case the muse was on the same one! Or the necessity of having an afternoon in the snipe bog with the headmaster prior to being hired with Tull from the Broadsword one, and since there were rarely pictures of the band on their albums, those tour guides were wonderful for that too, often very clever shots. People either forget or are too young to know that there was very little information about Tull even in their alleged heyday, after Passion Play there was nothing in the press about them, or on the rare times there was it was nearly always very negative, Jethro Dull.
