A dark day in the life of one Steel Monkey...no no...no harm to pampered child, overpriced rental home, trusty bicycle or fat cat. The computer at work has caught up with my poor work ethic and blocked this Tull forum....no more sanity breaks admiring memorabilia and posts, non more mini-vacations dreaming of gigs to come and gigs long gone...no more venting on work hours about the effed upness of my job....no more hourly, or more, checks on this site to see what's up (or down)....How can they do this to me? Oh well...they'll pay...now Tull board visits will have to take place after kiddie's bedtime...and I'll drag my tired as to work and nap in my office! The work computer is dead (for non-work purposes...and that means DEAD)....long live the home computer

B*****ds. I'm on your side Steel 'cos I can't access the internet at work myself but they work us so hard I really wouldn't have the time. It's time for action - anyone got any ideas?

Hey Steelman, don't know if this will help, but.......... when I was 49, I got laid off from the IT industry. I did everything you're supposed to - went on courses, had my CV/resume professionally done, blah blah blah. I got 1 'effing interview and the money was crap.
So me and the missus worked out how much we needed to survive on and how much was coming in. We decided I'd do something else for a living, sooooo I started gardening and it was the smartest thing I have ever done. I don't know what you're financial incomings/outgoings are or what you'd like as a career given a free choice, but if you can do it, then do as NonRabbit suggests and get another career.
I admit I was lucky in that my job and chief hobby are really the same thing and round here in South East England, there was a great demand for gardeners, nothing too difficult. If you can cut grass and hedges, maybe a bit of tree pruning and are physically fit, then that's maybe 90% of what I do. I pick and choose which jobs I do and have just about enough to keep me going all year round, even in winter. Oh yes, there's no 66666666 in a grey suit watching me, I don't go to meetings, I have a day off whenever I want one and there's f--k all in the way of forms and paperwork.
Old buddy, I sure hope this helps.

Good career change 'sword...I did it backwards...i was a free, outdoors, no boss bike messenger for 23 years after college and then 'went inside' to a job with bosses, supervision and corporate childishness....and it's too late to turn back now, having dived into fatherhood at a late age and hoping to leave the little princess a few pennies to remember me by after my demise! My job is high pay, I never clockwatch...the days go by fast....and it isn't going anywhere....but it does gall me that they grabbed my Tull Forum access....I'm only online now cuz I get up early enough to bike ride the 22 miles to work and it's raining cats and dogs this AM so I'll relent and drive...a bit later. I got a psych degree hoping to put my bike riding skills and passion in the service of mental health (cycle-therapy worked for me) and instead ended up working in a county emergency room.....how much for a gardening house call to California? My small yard is the shame of the neighborhood.
