I suppose one could argue that Passion Play is IA's prefered version and on that basis should be the one to support but the Chateau d'isaster version is what he originally intended but rejected and is, imo, the lost classic that we now have. If you can get hold of a copy of the bootleg "Minstrels In The Red House" there're six songs from the original session, including the unreleased "Sailor", before IA re-mixed them for the Nightcap release.

While I really love the Nightcap recordings, and that would probably be the mainstream listener's choice, I'd have to say the original Passion Play. It is very unique, complete, and oh so whimsical.
