The more Tull forums, the better....in a perfect universe, there would be thousands...like churches on the corner...some for fans who like big, general, 'eyes of thousand' sites...some for people who would be more 'at home' at a small site...like 'Jews for Jethro' or, you know, a gay fan site, etc etc etc.....the sites should not and do not compete. I myself, kinda like the AA or NA model that recovering addicts have ( I'm not an AA or NA member---but know a lot about it from my job) you have a 'home meeting' but you are welcome and encouraged to drop in anywhere, anytime, as needed, all over the world. Well..this is my 'Home' Tull website...I think this is the best one going...As an American Tull fan, despite sharing a language, I am aware that my favorite band is from a different country and culture and I thrive on the input and direction of British Tull fans. The new site is fun, active and thought provoking...but a bit limited in international scope and minimum daily brit input vitamins...this will likely evolve as that site grows. Col, Dog and NonRabbit have done such a great job starting and maintaining this site...as long as it continues...I'll be here as my home Tull site...but when I have time...and the posts here are all a bit too 'yesterday'...I'll check on and participate in the other site...and maybe others ( Tull talk...some of the private sites etc). I think Paul and Fats have done a great job on their site...and I must admit, that's what you should do if you're not happy with something like a public forum...go start your own. As far as bickering between sites...no matter what about....is just too petty to even waste time thinking about. Everything Tull is public....any Q and As should fly back and forth as soon as they are posted...it's all information-the heart and soul of the internet age: information. So play nice everyone or risk losing my valuable respect ( I know you're trembling). And thanks to all of you for dragging me into the 21st century...Tull Forums are my entree into the world of virtual friendship...and I have already harvested: a ticket in Denver, A visit form a new friend from Kentucky, a concert in Modesto with 3 fan friends and a bonus cool hubby and cool mom, invaluable knowledge of all things Tull...and a validation of my secret self-image.

Well said Steel *thumbs up* thats what it's all about and thanks for those words and sentiments hopefully we will have a transatlantic meetup in the future but you know us Brits, well me anyway we panic at the puddle that is the Irish Sea So come on over here - we don't bite - we mull things over in an ironic fashion On that note I am taking my (annual) leave for a bit as my daughter is about to produce her first child any hour now so I'm off to Bonnie Scotland ... shameful cheesy plug ... All the best Tullies .................. i38.images obliterated by tinypic/1zdbzwk.jpg[/IMG]

I must admit, I'd like an official forum at jethrotull.com but when I found this one I was most pleased and made very welcome. Since TM and FM started their forum I got to admit I'm not keen on the fragmentation. I'm torn between them. Actually this proboards.com software is pretty awful too.

You are right, Steel. I am a member of 4 Tull forums (one of them is German, laufi.de) and I can´t see a reason why there should not be even more. As long as the people are friendly I enjoy to read their points of view or their stories. I met some lovely people via those forums, for example: my 2009 Cropredy virgin.

I agree the more Tull talk the better and I'm sure the band think so as well and its good to see different viewpoints spread across the web - originality in all the different Boards is a good idea too!

I also agree that our (all?) mutual sites should be less antagonistic and more synergistic (interacting, cooperating) working toward the common goal of interest in music, and Tull in particular.
Music and art can be interpreted many different ways and there is no right or wrong.
I feel the demise of the official board was based on people not being able to get along and lack of tolerance for any opinions that didn't put I.A. on a pedestal and people that thought they had the authority to label themselves , "true fans". I love my children more than Tull but feel the need to critique them for certain things like messy rooms, sloppy handwriting and such but that doesn't mean I don't love them.
Steel said it eloquently , and while this is his 'home base', I will make the other one mine , but anyone is welcome to quote or copy anything I post there if it is of interest.
Paul made a nice point there , that if something is taken from a different site , that you should try to give them credit for it. I was unable to find samples for the new Tull/Christmas/St. Bride's cd, found the link here and will post it there giving maddog credit.
Cheers,
Dan

I've heard that mentioned a few times and it cracks me up WTF is a "true Tull fan"? ;D Is there an annual contest? Maybe, just maybe the truest of all the true Tull fans wouldn't come near a Tull Forum with a barge pole ..and that person is sitting out there in outer web world , note and lyric perfect, seen every show and has every T shirt ironed and in 'date of concert order' sittin on the shelf......am I in any way close? As I mentioned previously the more Tull Talk the better imo I just don't like to see the same threads/pics etc on too many Boards

You are describing the stuff of Ian Anderson's nightmares. I'm convinced he has a form of hatred for these type of fans and considers us regular forum lurkers to be just as scary.

I've heard that mentioned a few times and it cracks me up WTF is a "true Tull fan"? ;D WTF exactly is a true or genuine fan and was looking for the defitinition from your own maddog here and his reply was to 'PM me if you want to know.I hear through the vast grapevine that exists between genuine Tull fans .. As I mentioned previously the more Tull Talk the better imo I just don't like to see the same threads/pics etc on too many Boards I guess we disagree that it doesn't matter to me how many pics/threads/ideas are duplicated as long as someone has never seen them before.Dan

As others have said it's good to see the various different Boards and even better if they are taking different slants or posting new threads.

Proboards are _awful_ the phpboard that most people use is far, far better - I've joined this other forum, but every Tull forum seems to descent into squabbling or just general abuse, a lot of it aimed at Ian Anderson...
The official j-tul forum was good, but it was suddenly pulled... never knew why.

whats happened to most of the tull sites on the web these days
apart from this forum it looks like many others don’t get updated such as the electrocutas and collecting jethro tull site (is this because people have lost interest i wonder) and the american board which started a few months ago is now a shadow of its former self and is turning into a personnel blog site
its a shame though that many people who log on here dont post anything and that includes me i have to admit but I only get a few minutes on the computer ever so often
its left to a minority here to try and keep everyone up to date
i would hope that the british concerts in march will get people to post reviews and to list the songs played

Here's to redoubling my efforts to increase my participation in this site, the best Tull Forum on wheels...despite recently denied access at work and my daughter's later bedtime meeting my ever earlier bedtime leaving almost no adult swim on the computer. Talking Tull is a cornerstone of my fragile sanity.....and as things get tougher all over, a Rock island to cling to!

There certainly seems to be a fair few Tull sites and forums that have gone quiet over the years and I reckon it’s down, in part, to the initial enthusiasm wearing away. Increased posting will come about as and when a new album arrives (am I being optimistic?) and the 2010 concerts get underway.
It’s “the nature of the beast” unfortunately and anyone who’s been a member of a charity group, for example, will know that after the initial eagerness the support drops away until an injection of new members revitalises the project.
Looking around the internet at Tull sites it is, however, interesting to see that most approach the subject in a slightly different manner and, in the main, they all complement one another.
All I will add is that I hope that with the 2010 concerts, we will get increased “traffic” with set lists and discussions on new songs and individual concert reviews.
On that very point regarding new songs, has anyone managed to decipher the words to “A Change of Horses” or “Tea With The princess” yet?

Why dont we do something about it? Upgrading to a better platform is easy, and the members etc. can be kept if done correctly! Lets go?

Personally I think this is the way to go and we should all get together. There really only needs to be one Tull forum, fragmenting it all seems silly to me.

I am actually pretty happy with the proboards forum. It's easy to maintain and modify, the servers are very reliable and almost never go down and I think it's simple to use too. I can see why you might want something that looks very slick but I think messageboards like this survive and thrive on content alone. I also think it helps that we are well established here too (would you believe it's going to be the forum's 4th birthday next Friday!) Welcome to the forum kleynan btw

Thanks! I still maintain that a change wouldnt neccesarily be bad though, and though the content is definitely what make these boards awesome, it wouldnt hurt to present the content in a more fancy way, would it? Just my oppinion anyway
