God Knows Standing from left to right: Ina Hercksen, a rabid cannine, Kevin Collins, Mark Collins, Martin Allen and his wife. Sitting, left hand side: Keith Burchett and Old Webby Corronach - identify yourself (by PM if required ;D ) Late 80's at Wembley. Mark and Kevin had the idea of getting custom made T shirts - only worn mine once so it may appear on ebay one day. Only kidding, it's a family heirloom.

As for where, haven't a clue. * insert any UK county name here. Maybe it's Rutland.

Annie Haslem. Likely my main celebrity crush, or a tie with Emmylou Harris, from the 70's. Renaissance, as most over 50 will know, was a band that would fit securely within what was known at the time by the more appealing term of progressive rock. To me, like Jethro Tull, they have had much of their material weather the decades well because unlike others from that category, they were well introduced to the notion of a good song, not just alleged facility as a musician. Here are two very shining examples, (indeed both likely in the best 20 fan videos I have seen) the first is the one that made me quite an avid fan back in 74. Never was the type to lurk outside tour busses but in her case I should have made an exception. I want me a bowl of Annie and I ain't leavin til I get one. Mother Russia youtu.be/3JcGIW9FkrYAshes are Burning youtu.be/nTI1oP762rw I do recall that their paths crossed sometime in the past 10 years as Annie resurfaced a bit after great health difficulties, in fact it probably dates to this picture. Cannot recall them ever to have connected at the peak of their popularities, both were the headline act. I did see Renaissance a couple times with unusual openers, Nils Lofgren once and Al Dimeola another.

Correct Annie Haslam from Renaissance. Have to admit that I only know and well remember this one... Renaissance were linked with Tull (MITG) as "medieval rock" They played together in the Beat Club - the German music programme in 1970 however according to the Ministry of Tull they never actually supported Tull at any time. Full list of Beat Club episodes here; www.ranker.com/list/full-list-of-beat-club-episodes/referenceIan and Annie both collaborated on the Serenity House cd www.cdbaby.com/cd/serenityhouseThe picture was taken on the Rubbing Elbows tour when Ian met up again with Annie.

1970 I could see Patti, as Renaissance were nothing, or at least little like what they morphed into a few years later with Annie, nearly as different as the different versions of Fleetwood Mac. Those were the Keith Relf years. The instrumental Prologue I think is the only one from the early years they continued to play. By and large the best of their music has stood the test of time thus far, any of their albums between 73 and 78 have some or near full merit.

Though I have it all sorted out in my mind now, i must admit...in about 1974 I was utterly confused between Renaissance, Genesis and Pentangle. Camel and Caravan were sort of mix and match in my mind as well.

Sort of as with Tull and Loco or Aqua, not the song I would choose to remember them by. Having said that if that is the song Renaissance is remembered by, and it is, I stand by it firmly, its a lovely song. Always would recoil at what songs the bass player would sometimes have, but he was a marvelous player, very fluid with a depth to his tone not evident here. He seemed to be one hell of a sweet guy too. Annie's voice will be with me forever, same as Sarah Vaughan, or Maddy Prior or Sandy Denny, the sacreds. Love to see her singing with her hands on her hips, sort of her trademark, to me anyway, with some beautiful gown on, I adore it.

The reason all those bands were jumbled in my mind was because I was just, plain, too Tull to do the even easy homework of differentiating those bands from one another...I didn't even know the diff between Fairport Convention and...what was it?...Fairground Attraction ?

Doubt if it would be those two as they were separated by eras but maybe Rotary Connection who actually had some decent stuff, might have even opened for Tull in Chicago at least in the very early days, on triple bills and such, seem to recall a cover of Ruby Tuesday maybe, and a young Minnie Riperton with her 5 octaves some may recall. Like Sandy Denny died real young.

I'm sure there's some sort of course you could do. That'd be quite good - a bearded, patched cord jacketed, Bob Harris lookalike lecturer. In fact give Bob the job - location Cropredy!

Wait a Tull minute, you said no one can be too Tull... or have too much Tull? Don't see what I do not want to see, you don't hear what I don't say. Won't be what I don't want to be, I continue in my way.
