Here in NYC, an all-news/weather/traffic station is WCBS 880 AM. So I'm in my car, listening to the Yankee game this afternoon (which the staion also covers). In between innings they go to commercial and I hear: "Hello, this is Ian Anderson of Jethro Tull inviting you to my shows, "IA plays the acoustic.....JT" It was really pretty cool, because it brought back memories of 30+ yrs ago when there'd be commercials on the FM rock stations whenever Tull was doing another tour, stations like WNEW-FM or WPLJ but it was always some professional voice-over guy saying, like, "Come see the piper, the minstrel, the...." But the commercial today was actually very cool cuz Ian was being very funny and he said, among other things, "So come see me and my HEAVY METAL FLUTE..." ha ha (But I still ain't going, Fatman and TM!) lol

I used my connections in radio and media, Tommy, and did some research...WNEW is NOT airing any Ian Anderson commercials...that was a cosmic miracle...Ian speaking directly to YOU...PLEADING that you change your mind and go see him in NYC...please, Tommy, do the right thing, come home, Tommy, buy tickets...go to the gig...Ian NEEDS you there. So do Fatman and TM.

That's spooky because last Saturday I went into work and someone said to me (this someone knows I'm a Tull fan) did you hear Jethro Tull on Downtown radio - a Northern Ireland local radio. I asked the bloke who was on he said someone called Ian (he's not a Tull fan) and that he was talking about Maryport concert. I forgot about it until you mentioned this - I must contact Downtown radio to find out.

It was nice to hear Ian/Tull being advertised on the radio again. I cannot remember the last time I heard one. BTW, I am going! First time in 2 or 3 years.

I also heard an IA ad on the radio recently. I was driving, listening to the Red Sox game in WEEI in Boston and it was the first ad in the break. It started with Aqualung, so at first, I thought they were using it for bumper music, but then ol' Ian started talking. This one was promoting the MGM Grand at Foxwoods in CT show. Doubt I'll end up going, prices are too high for me to justify right now, but maybe if I can score a deal from a desperate broker last minute. Last time I saw Ian solo was at a super small venue in Concord NH. It was really great, I don't think that theater holds 1500 people, I would make a point to see him there again. I get less excited for the solo show in such a grand venue.
