I just saw that Tull will be playing with Steeleye Span and several others at a festival in Doncaster, UK. Wish I could go. Love the Steeleyes, but was too young to see them with Tull in the seventies. They will be playing a 40th anniversary show at BBKings in September, and I won't miss that.

Please post a review of the current Steeleyes...if you say it was worth it...I'll cruise the web for west coast dates! Their last few albums were not so great, but they did put out one or two pretty good ones in the nineties. Nothing compared to old stuff like Hark the Village Wait or Parcel of Rogues, of course, but not bad either. I will see them in September and let you know how the live act is. I have actually never seen them before because they haven't been around all the time like Fairport. Jeff

I last saw them in...1974! Saw Maddy Prior in about 1985 or so....I haven't changed a bit since 1974...so maybe they haven't either!

Doncaster Rocks includes JT, SS, The Strawbs & the brilliant Curved Air. I last saw CA in 1971 !! Back Street Luv was in the (UK) Top 20 ! CA reformed last year with Sonja K & Darryl Way - but no Francis Monkman. Tickets are about £30 & IMHO, great value for such great bands. I saw the Acoustic Strawbs in a small venue here in Bath in Feb. Dave Cousins voice is still soft and he can still sing the soft, gentle songs. I must get my ass in gear and order my ticket for Doncaster Rocks.

I don't now that much about Curved Air, or the Strawbs, other than some of their songs with Sandy Denny, but it will be worth seeing just for Tull and Span alone, of course. Jeff

She cannot reach that upper register anymore. What I am wondering is whether Gay Woods will join them for their 40th anniversary. It would really be a treat to see Maddy and Gay singing together again. Jeff

I just thought I might add to the discussion re Doncaster Rocks. I did try to “link” my comments by pressing the “link to post” button – but not sure if that was the correct action. This new technology stuff – whatever happened to sending scribble notes via the GPO! Jeff was asking about The Strawbs & Curved Air. Strawbs always reminded me, a little, of JT. The Strawbs early 70’s music was great – the Grave New World album is recommended as a starter. Rick Wakeman (Yes) played with them before he went on to earn megabucks!! Curved Air included, on their early albums, a certain Darryl Way (see Heavy Horses) on violin. Of course, CA was renowned for Sonja Kristina – the origin (British) “rock chick”. I recommend Air Conditioning (the first album) and Air Cut for starters. But please note, Curved Air, when not producing some of the best 70’s rock, could produce (IMHO) some rambling, pointless doodling.
