Thought I'd start a thread in readiness.
The words of The Lad Himself, during promotion for RökFlöte:
"…I've already committed myself to another new album in 2024 – which is what I started on January 1st of this year [2023], and I should deliver that by April of next year."
By 'deliver by April', are we to deduce that the first singles will follow not long after and the new album will be with us in the Summer/Autumn?
And — I'm getting ahead of myself here, I know — but does anyone know if Ian has repeated his usual "January 1st, get up early, coffee, sit down, start conceiving album" routine this year, in preparation for a 2025 release?

As far as I remember he went through that routine already in january -23. I know he mentioned it during the RökFlöte premiere with Bruce Soord. I’ve also heard him say that he consciously held off a bit, rather than finishing the idea/songs. I don’t recall where he said this though. This seems like a very good idea to me! So I think he would have picked up that project again this january, rather than starting a completely new one. Hoping for a clue about what’s to come soon!

I think you've misread what I said, or I didn't make it clear enough.
YES, Ian said at the RökFlöte premiere that he did this sit-down/coffee/compose routine again in January '23, but that was with a view to making an album with a 2024 release — so I believe the album he is referring to here is almost — if not already — complete. When he says he must 'deliver' an album by April, it means exactly that — hand over all finished songs, artwork and sleeve design to the record label, have it ready for them to start manufacturing copies and generating promotional material. That's not the release date.
So I see the time frame as thus: Ian started composition work on RökFlöte in January 2022. He said on stage when I saw him live in September 2022 that the new album (ie RökFlöte) was finished and expecting release early the following year. That makes sense — he is not the type of person who wastes time and historically, he has always planned ahead carefully, and worked quickly and efficiently when it comes to composing/rehearsing/recording albums.
Therefore, if Ian has started work on something in January 2024, it would be with the intent to release it in 2025. It seems like a long run-in time between finishing the album and the release date but I think deadlines and available resources post-COVID means you have to book your slot with the physical media manufacturing plants early to ensure the product is made on time.
However, I am only speculating at this point — we will probably have to wait until Ian starts doing promo work for the 2024 album to know what's in store for Tull after then.
The other thing worth mentioning is, as far as I know, his deal with the current record label was for two albums — this he has delivered already (Zealot Gene and RökFlöte). But with a new album coming this year, I wonder if he's been offered a deal to make two more?

You're quite right, I read your post too quickly. Sorry about that!
What I wanted to add was really just that I remember hearing him specifically say that he would take some more time for these songs and come back to them later. Personally, I think that's an exciting idea - not that I disliked the recent albums, but I still like the idea of the songs being allowed to percolate a bit before going into the studio.
That wouldn't preclude the idea of another one written this January, but the arguments against are 1: in the same talk with Soord, Ian did clearly say that the next album might be the last, and 2... I just found the above interview where IA reveals that the album is probably delayed til 2025 anyway (sad smiley). So I would think there probably isn't another one in the pipeline, sad as that is, but it's great to get confirmation that work is ongoing at least! Edit to add: that's a very interesting fact about the two-record deal, I didn't know about that!

Oh, that's a good interview samatcn — nice find!
This supersedes my information on the subject — if Ian's saying the album's been put back until 2025, then that's new to me and straight from the heavy horse's mouth! A shame to learn that, but I'm sure the delay is all for the good of creating a really splendid album — especially if it really does turn out to be his last (or at the least a last album under the Jethro Tull name).
I can't honestly remember when Ian mentioned the two-album deal he had/has with Inside Out, it was during his promo interview whirl for The Zealot Gene, but I'm sure he said it more than once. I'd imagine they'd be happy with whatever he wishes to put out on their label, he's good profile for them.
At least we have the Bursting Out 5.1 book set to look forward to in 2024, and who knows what else, maybe?
