Recent dip to the frosty 30s in Northern california and preschool closed two weeks for holidays so my normal bicycle commute has changed to the dreaded infernal combustion machine....an 88 toyota with...wait for it....a cassette player...so every day i grab a cassette out of a box where they lie jumbled, unlabeled, faded of label and long seperated from box or liner notes...what surprises...first a trip to my 'yoof' the massive Quadrophenia...then Grateful dead Shakedown Street outakes...which i remember having heard but never knew I owned and then a fast forward to the eighties...Magazine still sound pretty sharp but PILs second or third: The Flowers of Romance'...really got me thinking...is it noise or art? I guess I'm trying to place it and figure out how it was taken seriously...maybe pre einsturtzende neubauten? Maybe Rotten Johnny trying to swindle us again.
