This was one of the first magazines I bought back in the early 80s, but for some reason never got round to transcribing it for the site. Had to buy another copy to get it done. One of my favourite pieces, due to the interviews with Glenn and Mick about the early days in Luton, written by someone who knows the place. www.tullpress.com/zzjul76.htmDecent photos, too. Part two features in the August issue, also very entertaining, which I'll add to the site tomorrow, probably. A

Re: the flat shared by Ian & Glenn in the 'big house at the top of Studley Rd' (going uphill, towards Biscot Rd), I'm wondering if it's no.38 -- looking at the street view on Google maps, it looks likely, and has a 'To let - student flats' sign outside.
The main cartoon in the Zigzag article also includes 'Biscot Rd', at the top.
One for a blue plaque, eh?!

This recent upload makes me think of Glenn, naturally.
He was always very generous in helping me with TullPress, and sent me scans of his personal diary pages from 1969-1970, which showed what song (for Stand Up and Benefit) was recorded on what day, and what gigs were played.
I remember I forwarded all those diary images to Neil Thomason at the Ministry of Information, so he could add all the info to his timelines.
I don't have them any more ... changing computers over the years, I lost images and emails.
Here's to Glenn.

I corresponded with Glenn, via email back in 2007, and I got to asking him about the set list for the Star Hotel gig back in early 1968 that we were present at. He sent me a set list which he thought was 95% correct which I shared with Pete McHugh at electrucutas and the ministry of information and is used on both sites. One or two other unscrupulous sites stole the info, one laying some ridiculous copyright claim to it (!}. I still have a copy of the emails somewhere and I'll add them here when I find them.

Thank you for some precious reading time, on the clock, at work....and if anyone out there is destined to be a future employer, I swear, I can stop anytime I want.

Hm, something which has just dawned on me, after comparing different sources --
This Zigzag article claims that IA worked in the Savoy cinema, and interviews an employee of the Savoy who says she remembers him.
Thing is, in all interviews, IA states that he worked in the Ritz -- a different cinema! The Ritz is the one that hosted the occasional gig (the Beatles played there), and which was converted into a bingo hall in 1971, due to the expansion of the Savoy.
So it seems Mac Garry got his story all wrong.
There's also some ambiguity around whether IA and Glenn shared the same (ground-floor) flat in Studley Road, or whether they had separate bedsits within that house. IA talks of an 'attic' room, but this seems to be a romantic elaboration (going by the Zigzag story of someone who lived in 'the room above' and was annoyed by the constant flute playing).
This Zigzag article is the only thing I can see online which mentions a 'shared' flat, with Glenn saying "We used to live in the bottom flat," rather than 'I'.
Random Sunday thoughts.

A Whoever wrote IA's wikipedia page reckons it was The Ritz as well: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ian_AndersonIn late 1967, Anderson was still holding down a day job, namely cleaning the Ritz Cinema in Luton, including the toilets, in the mornings, "which took me half the day" he said in a later interview. He took an old, chipped urinal from the cinema storeroom and had it for a time after leaving the job. It was not, however, the urinal which "was bolted to the side of John Evan's Hammond organ on stage" and figured in early 1970s Tull performances.

Found the file This is where other sites got this set list from back in 2007. Interesting that Sunshine Day featured at the end of the set probably more as a promotional addition to try and sell the Toe single because in hindsight it may not have appealed much to the British Blues fans of the time. From: Graham Maisey<graham.maisey@xxxxxxxxxxx> To: GlennCornick@xxxxxxxxxx> Sent: Monday, July 16, 2007 5:19 AM Subject: 1968 Hi Glenn First saw you with Tull at the Star Club in Croydon sometime around March/April 1968. My question is what songs are you likely to have played? Yep, I know it's a memory jerker but for the life of me I can't remember! I've attached scans of the Melody Maker ads for those gigs for your archive, that is if you don't have them.
