Scottish, non driver and a family member who teaches in Ian's old school - three things that I thought I had in common with Ian until last night when I nearly threw something else in to the mix. A few days ago one of the veins in my left leg turned very painful and red. Dr Google told me that it was possibly DVT and as I read further ....deep into the "complications" area I thought I'd better get it checked out. So not being registered with a GP yet (naughty) I went to A&E. A thing called a Wells Test is done - ten or so questions asked and a score at the end. I scored well however the Doc then decided on a blood test - that didn't score well at all. So I was given a shot of blood thinner in the belly and an appointment made for an ultrasound the next day. Sat up worrying about "complications" Mental note - only read up on "complications" if they should - unfortunately ever apply to you. Anyway, ultrasound came back clear of DVT I have SVT - a less serious clot - a kinder "vein" if you like. The doctor who specialises in venous probs, gave me an early Xmas present of lovely non-sexy stockings to wear. He wanted to chat for ages so naturally ( geek moment) I talked about Ian's excellent advice on DVT. Turned out Doc had seen Tull at a John Martyn concert and I told him to check out Ian's blog on DVT which he said he would. jethrotull.com/confessions-of-a-dvt-victim-and-ten-tips-for-survival/SVT,a Doc who specialises in DVT and had also seen Tull in concert - small world again. I hope to add huge lottery win as my next "in common"

SVT ( for sex, violence and television) also the name of San Francisco's second ever punk band in about 1976. ( The Dead Kennnedys were the first), they were horrible....only a foootnote in history because their bass player was a desperate to evolve and keep up with the kids, serious hippie era, jefferson Airplane alum; Jack Casady.
Hoping you get a leg up on your vein ASAP. Good that you knew to pay attention early !

He will be pleased What gets me is that I have the opposite of a sedentary lifestyle and I haven't been on any long haul flights recently that I recall. I have a job where I'm on my feet all day, I walk for miles for pleasure and yet I still get pissin SVT. Anyho, enough of my veins - lets open out the thread to anyone who has anything in common with Ian. Plays the flute? Lives in Wiltshire? Has a black dog?

Sorry to hear of you're on treatment for superficial venous thrombosis. I reckon you should join the rest of us and take up drinking alcohol as I believe it's a natural anticoagulant. I'm sure I read it somewhere in a medical book.

I'm sure I read it somewhere in a medical book. The fact I don't drink is probably where I'm going wrong I'll just take myself off to the Wine, Whisky and Beer Thread for some advice.

We had a black cat many years ago called Benji. He had the polydactyl gene which meant he had an extra toe on each paw. Always think of this IA song when I look at any pics of Benji

I grow Chillies for fun - the hotter the better! Yum...
I know Ian used to - don't know if he still does however.

Jim and Ian also look a lot alike: I don't know why this made me laugh so hard, it just did. --Ron--
