Ah yes...my humble hometown and first place I saw Tull. Denver fans in luck tonight. I'm sure some of my high school friends, those not dead, demented nor in detox, will be there tonight.

Jethro Tull’s Martin Barre Band at LPAC Tomorrow, September 16 LINKJethro Tull lead guitarist Martin Barre, along with his all-star band will perform classics from the legendary progressive rock group Jethro Tull, Saturday, September 16 at the Lancaster Performing Arts Center (LPAC).
For 43 years, Martin Barre has served as the guitarist and one of the creative forces behind Jethro Tull. Now, Barre has assembled a band to play the extensive Jethro Tull catalogue, including songs not performed for many years. Classic albums of the 70s, including Aqualung, Thick as a Brick, and A Passion Play; as well as timeless songs such as “Minstrel in the Gallery,” “Teacher,” and “Locomotive Breath” come to life in the hands of this master guitarist.
The success and longevity of Jethro Tull is in large part due to Barre’s unique, and now classic guitar sound; including his work on “Aqualung,” which was named as one of the top 20 guitar solos of all time. His abilities on the guitar provided much of the energy which enabled Jethro Tull to succeed both on record and in concert, culminating in the band’s 1988 Grammy win for Best Hard Rock Album for Crest of a Knave. Jethro Tull lead singer, Ian Anderson has said, "without Martin Barre, Jethro Tull could not exist." Join the Martin Barre Band for an evening filled with hard rock classics, and impeccable guitar playing on Saturday, September 16, at 8 p.m. Seats are available at $29, $24, and Youth $10. Tickets may be purchased online at www.LPAC.org, by phone at (661) 723-5950, or in person at the LPAC Box Office, 750 W. Lancaster BLVD. Box Office hours are Noon to 6 p.m. Noon to 4 p.m. Saturday.

Lancaster....boyhood home of Frank Zappa and Don Van Vliet (Captain Beefheart). Also a place I was robbed at gunpoint and left naked in 1975...losses included War Child belt buckle the staff at Chrysalis gave me when I offered my services as Tull roadie and got sent away.

I love the last picture of the set, looking out into the empty seats. I absolutely love the smaller venues that Martin is playing at now. I would love love love to be playing places like that.

Barre has been the guitarist of Jethro Tull for 43 years, joining the band in 1968. His solo on “Aqualung” was named the 25th best solo ever in the U.S. and 20th best solo ever in the United Kingdom in rock history. His playing on the album “Crest of a Knave” earned him a Grammy Award in 1988. As well as numerous Jethro Tull albums, Barre has worked with many other artists, including Paul McCartney, Phil Collins, Gary Moore, Jo Bonamassa and Chris Thompson, and has shared a stage with such legends as Jimi Hendrix, Fleetwood Mac, Pink Floyd and Led Zeppelin. As Jethro Tull takes a long break from touring, Barre has put together a band – Dan Crisp (vocals, acoustic guitar), Alan Thomas (bass), Dave Schoepke (drums) – to play the “classic” music from the Tull catalog. Tickets, which are now on sale, are $45 in advance and $50 at the door if available. For tickets, or for more information, call 925-8760 or visit www.liverybrew.com.
