Another time we played with Herman's Hermits who were very popular. Frankly, we didn't rate them musically, but we were impressed when they told us about playing in the States alongside their mate 'Elvo'...Elvis Presley, to you and me. And when they told Ian Anderson he sang like 'Elvo' he was very flattered and to this day the rest of the band and I always call Ian 'Elvo'!”

JETHRO TULL FRONTMAN REVEALS HOW HE WAS DISRESPECTED BY ELVIS PRESLEY By Feyyaz Ustaer -February 6, 2019
Jethro Tull frontman Ian Anderson spoke in an interview with Prog Magazine, and revealed an untold story about why he’s pissed at Elvis Presley after a live show.
Here’s the story:
“We were playing in Las Vegas around the time of [1969’s] Stand Up record, and we were dragged by the scruff of the neck to some casino where he was appearing. I was never really a big Elvis fan but I suppose the first couple of songs that he ever recorded were part of my childhood fascination with music.
Anderson recalls that he wasn’t impressed with what he saw:
“I was just appalled by the commerciality and the triteness of it all, And he was clearly out of his box. He was slurring his words, he didn’t know where he was, he would stop the band halfway through his song. It just wasn’t the way to see Elvis.”
Then, Elvis wanted to meet Jethro Tull. Ian stated:
“They said, ‘Elvis would like to see you in his dressing room. I replied, ‘Tell Mr Elvis that it is a really great honor to have been here tonight, but we’ve got a show tomorrow, we’re a bit tired and we need an early night.’
And they said ‘No, you’re not listening – Elvis will see you backstage in the dressing room.’ I thought, ‘This is not this is not an invitation, it’s f**king instruction.’”
I think a couple of band members were miffed but I felt so embarrassed for him and I didn’t want to make things even worse. And obviously he would have had absolutely no idea who we were, no matter what they said.”
futureshock: "Macropod". That sounds like the ultimate. "Hello, my name is J.P.Carruthers, Macropod, Intended At Large. My podcast is in Wales. I play the glass harmonica in 7 languages and edit outgoing Sumerian braille. Please leave a message."

maddogfagin: Macropod sounds like an overlarge ipod, as opposed to a minipod used by small furry animals.

futureshock: Ages ago, I saw Mr. Thompson at the Vancouver Folk Fest, but I worked fence security and was far away, couldn't hear much. Just being there was amazing though, near the musicians all weekend, saw amazing things. Live music is BEST!

maddogfagin: War Child is a great album, criminally underrated in the music press but loved by the vast majority of fans.
